these guys don't know how to
subvert a trope in sf
or invent one
they just treat them straight
and you wonder if they even like the stuff
or maybe what "liking" a genre means to them
a guy who, god help me, got very close to getting it was seth macfarlane
who came this close to the best deconstruction and reassembly of #startrek since #galaxyquest
but still believed in the male hero's journey
so he failed because he didn't question
somewhere out there is a fan gaining success in another genre
a young verhoeven who gets it
and wants to twist it
because it isn't good enough
maybe we need a greta gerwig
someone who loves it enough to kill it
because the folks who never got it
who loved "don't build the torment nexus" for the nexus
are systematically destroying the future
and thus destroying sf
so someone needs to finish the job and reinvent the future
