Wow! Congrats! In Scandinavia, for practical purposes you get your PhD the moment your supervisor says, "OK, this is good enough, time to get this thing ready for the printers". Everything after that is empty ritual. No committee interference. - Sep 5, 2026, 6:02 AM
@mrundkvist it’s somewhat more formal here. And confusing. Neither of us are from academic backgrounds so many unspoken things are undetected and have been pitfalls. Getting there though!

I see severe disadvantages in both the UK and the Swedish PhD-programme systems.In your case, a lot of important work is never printed. (But maybe these days there is a PDF online?)
In our case, the thesis is printed in hundreds of copies before the committee and the opponent have made any input! So their work is just wasted.

@mrundkvist most PhDs here were available in Ethos, a British Library system, but they were badly hacked a few years ago and much of their online access is still broken.
You can set an embargo for a short period but after that, in theory, they are available somewhere. This is after examination and corrections though.
