The Atari TT deserves the title for most stupid video output ever. Its 640x480 mode actually seems to output 1024 pixels horizontally with huge uneven borders. Almost no monitor be it CRT or LCD has the horizontal phase and width range to display that centered and looking good.

    🧵

The TT medium mode as it comes out when you select "auto" mode on a LCD screen.

Of course the OSSC can do it. But it's fiddly and annoying to set up.

But I also found a monitor where this is not only possible, but even easy! The Eizo ColorEdge CG19, a 19" 1280x1024 LCD monitor of a bygone era.

Photo love story in the Alt Text.

First step: You select the "clock" menu item.
Second step: You put in 1024. Notice how the pixels now look perfect. Even the adjustment with the arrow keys feels great and has just the right amount of acceleration and precision...
Now you center the screen. Notice the nice crop marks at the edges that help you to align the pixels easily.

This is how it's done. Peak monitoring.
