For the first time since my hysterectomy, someone commented how nice my wide hips will be for bearing children. Leaving aside the presumption of gender, the assumption that every female has to bear children is what bothers me more. I don't want kids. I never wanted kids. I don't have a uterus, so I can't have kids. None of that seems to matter...
@rootsandcalluses It is amazing how comfortable some strangers feel making deeply personal assumptions about someone’s body and life.
I don't think you owe anyone an explanation for choosing not to have children.
@pacific06 And there are many couples who want children but can't have them. Talking like this to them might actually be hurtful. I am comfortable with not having children and never being able to have any. I would not have chosen differently if my uterus had not been a painful lump of tissue out of place. But they don't know that.
There was also a doctor (!) who refused the hysterectomy because I had not fulfilled my „duty to society“ yet. I left. They called me hysteric for it...
