@kc I read a scholarly piece on blindness in medieval Europe. Then, there were elaborate performances to have blind people demonstrate their blindness to sighted people. Even in the 18th century this was still common. Including public set ups that had blind people putting themselves in danger and in risk of serious injury to entertain sighted people.
