Didn't want to faff around with proc macros so I ignored the API trait stuff for now, but at least implementing a similar API versioning mechanism is pretty easy.

Though I again wish it was possible to either implement traits on functions, or at least attach associated constants to them. Attaching metadata without proc macros is kinda.. eh. At least until RFC 3697 gets implemented. (Declarative attribute macros.)
