Jun 19, 2026, 4:06 PMSo, I used to pay about £10 for an LP in my youth, often around £5 or so and sometimes as high as £12. Singles, 7 inches, were 79p. Assuming 12 tracks per album, the cost of buying each track as a single would be £9.48. Makes sense.
Today an LP is around the £30 mark. Fine, that’s inflation, I’m happy with that. But newly released, and re-released 7” singles are being priced up at £13.99 retail (let’s call it £14 as you’re not fooling anybody). The same maths would put an albums worth of singles at £168.00
Or, to put it another way, no, fuck off, I’m not paying £14 for a single.
