I ended up drying most of those leaves, and I absolutely underestimated how much volume herbs will loose when dried.

I ended up with maybe 2 grams of dried basil from that initial harvest, based on the empty herb shaker I'm refilling, which originally held 12.5g

Storing all that basil suddenly seems a lot more manageable 😁

Also, it's going to be interesting how much of the flavour it's retained after being dried. This little project just keeps on giving!

Also², I guess I'm now one of those people that have random drying herbs hanging in their home! :Blobhaj_Witch:

A photo of drying basil in my kitchen. Five sets of basil leaves are hanging upside down on a thin thread, across the front of one of my kitchen shelves. Some were harvested yesterday today and still have some volume to them, a few have already been drying for a couple of days and have shrunken down noticeably.

The shelf is surrounded with "casual kitchen messiness": there's a red towel visible to the right of the photo, an empty pickles jar in the back of the shelf waiting to be recycled, and an iPad used as a smart home interface on top.
