May 16, 2026, 5:05 PMI had a close family member hit by one of these scams. It began as a pop up while browsing & evolved into a scammer convincing them to send them $100k. Lucky for our family member, the bank convinced them to contact their family. I was able to get a stop payment on both transactions & while their money sat in some other bank for almost a year, we got back every penny in the end plus interest. The signs of a scam in this article fit the methods used by their scammer.
