Sometimes when I think about the grifters in the LLM space, I also think about the grifters from bitcoin: what happened to all the people who made hypothetical incredible amounts of money through untoward and unscrupulous means?

They’re digging in landfills looking for hard drives while their families and everyone they love leaves them. They’re so rich because they stole from someone, they had to fake their deaths and / or exile themselves to the UAE or Russia.

The pursuit of hypothetical money at all costs is, I think, sociopathic and lonely. But people who want that don’t care about mental or social happiness, so it doesn’t matter.

Ultimately, what’s it all for? Most people who are not sociopathic about money will have some kind of ‘above a certain amount, I’m good actually, now time to fill my other cups as well after survival. And others’ if I can’

But most people who only have the pursuit of hypothetical money don’t seem to have that. They also think that money and success will buy them respect, and maybe it does briefly, but like we are seeing now with the oligarchkakistocracy: we are now in the time of billionaire grievance.

At the heart of the Palantir manifesto is ‘stop mocking or laughing at us. Like us again, peasants.’

Totally making it up and I’m not an expert in any way but I imagine it’s kind of like not sleeping for days. At some point you.. stop being able to be anything other than harmful to yourself and others? And the world, if you have loads of money and power?

Community and social interaction is a core human need. No matter what people say. When you’re so rich that all your relationships are with people who want something from you, and I’m again spitballing here, since I’m not rich and I’m not an expert, that must feel like it’s terribly unfair that you have everything and nothing you need.

Poor babies. Not. Stop destroying people, societies, democracy, and the world.

@skinnylatte I think it’s a form of neurodivergence, just a pathological one we don’t treat. They can’t control their addiction to status markers or understand how to relate to society outside of them.

@skinnylatte billionaires aren’t the problem anyway. Systems that allow billionaires to accumulate that much wealth and power are the problem.
