The United Arab Emirates is a country where being discovered to be queer means imprisonment, where the workforce is mainly imported from South Asia under conditions of slavery, and where the status of local women is miserable, to say the least.
Hearing that Dubai was considered “a safe place” makes me upset. A safe place for whom?
