Here in Switzerland the glaciers are disappearing, but people don’t seem to care that much.

“They warn that such rapid melting is no longer a surprise given the pace of climate change, but it could threaten water supplies for farming, hydropower and transport in the decades ahead.
The loss of glacier ice can also destabilise mountain slopes and increase the risk of landslides in some places - which can lead to flash flooding in extreme cases, as seen in Nepal in August.”

Let’s make it standard to call West Asia the Middle East

Today’s Augst is a small country village compared to Augusta Raurica, but it is interesting to note that it has retained its name over the centuries.

Finally, this morning I was able to show off my knowledge of Taiwanese history in Chinese.

Teacher: “What do you know about Taiwanese history?”
Me: “Everything”

You can do whatever you want—bomb civilians, destroy the global economy, whatever. But if you touch the pope, in Italy, both the right and the left will say you’ve crossed the line.

I think the time has come to start referring to what we currently call the Middle East (“middle” of what?) as West Asia. So moving eastwards, there is Central Asia and then East Asia.
"Middle East” is an outdated and inaccurate Eurocentric term.

The United Arab Emirates is a country where being discovered to be queer means imprisonment, where the workforce is mainly imported from South Asia under conditions of slavery, and where the status of local women is miserable, to say the least.
Hearing that Dubai was considered “a safe place” makes me upset. A safe place for whom?

You work your whole life to get to the Olympics, but that becomes secondary when dignity is at stake.

You can't beat the Ukrainians. Quite simply, Russians do not know what dignity is; they cannot beat the Ukrainians.

I seriously believe that people like Trump, Musk, Xi, etc. etc., had received love during their youth and learned what love means, they would not have become so horrible.

It's incredible how every word uttered by this person has an off-the-charts level of sadness.
