Are hams involved in any way in events in Minnesota?

My largest concern with the hobby is the amateurs commitment to be "apolitical." The ICE operation tests the limits of that.

On one hand, it's an unfolding disaster & people need help. Amateurs have the abilities & the tools to help.

On the other hand, taking a side in this conflict means expressing a political view (helping people is political. surprise surprise)

What are people choosing to do?

Seems like it would be a great time for Hams to start working with folks to get set up with commercial-band radios and commercial licenses. Running clear is often going to be less than useful in this context and pure information sharing is easier online. While it's not ham bands, folks who know radios and know how to teach them are gonna be well set up to do this work — get a pile of cheap Chinese VHF HTs that support Motorola Advanced AES and get folks trained up in radio protocol, key management, building repeaters, etc., help them buy licenses, and send them off with kit lists and coordinate bulk orders. Of course, this means not just being political but also accepting the right tool for the job, so I'm not holding my breath.
