I try again, and the “Preparing Ubuntu…” screen stays up forever. The fans start running at 100%. Some python program is running at 100% CPU for many minutes, so I kill it, exit “Install Ubuntu”, then relaunch.

After ages, the log says it’s waiting for a fetch of something, except there’s no network traffic. Don’t they have timeouts?

Now when I launch “Install Ubuntu”, it lets me go through the first couple of screens, then it just… exits.

Second, third time - it just exits.

Then it exits and the fans go full blast. I kill the python program again, reboot, and try again.

    It exits.

This is a picture of a screen showing a terminal window running while Ubuntu is being installed (trying, but not really, to be installed). It shows a python process taking 100% of a CPU core for five and a half minutes so far.
