At the CSSWG group meeting today, I presented some new ideas from Apple about how Anchor Positioning could work. #css
Slides are here. Use the "Menu" UI at the top left to show speaker notes and see what we said as we presented:

@jensimmons oh I love this
Last boost (https://front-end.social/@jensimmons/110748561449175349 by @jensimmons): well, I guess I know what I would be doing the following weekend…
(rendering the alternative anchor positioning exploration in my head, and comparing it with the current canary implementation)
Going once through the slides and the exploration: there are parts I really like — all the positioning stuff in a grid-like manner, but I would love for this to complement the existing calculations-based approach rather than replace it.
@jensimmons Incredible work, thanks for sharing! 💯
@jensimmons Brilliant solution, especially with identically-named ancestors (bane of my existence)
@jensimmons I'm not familiar with `corner-shape`, but what if you wanted the tether to have a box-shadow? Would that be possible, or would the box-shadow blend with the box-shadow of the anchored element (and thus look weird)?

The amount of thinking that's been put into that is incredible. And that the slides make sense with almost no explanation is just as incredible too. We're lucky to have you all helping to make our lives easier and better!!
@jensimmons holy shit this is awesome 🤩
@jensimmons amazing! I’d love to know more about the proposed style options of ::tether
Jul 21, 2023, 6:08 PM@jensimmons Interesting ideas. I like the API without the Try at-rules. But I don’t like the new at-rules introduced in this API either.
