I didn't write the post in a condescending way, and people kind of jumped down my throat a bit.

Don't have the energy to respond to the mostly unanimous negative responses right now either.

Made me second guess myself pretty hard but then I woke up this morning and the thought resoundingly hit me "no, this is bullshit, we aren't refugees".

Refugee is an extremely political word, it can't be used lightly in my opinion. Too many have been hurt and killed for it to be used metaphorically.
