It is really sad seeing people lose faith in the simple joys of social media as a concept just because corporations have so thoroughly betrayed our trust.

Yeah, this is kinda of crazy, using a large phablet phone, with f-droid I can get the 8vim swiping/touch keyboard and termux which then I used to install emacs, git, spacemacs. Running spacemacs on evil via the termux command line with 8-vim actually works, I know this sounds painfully annoying and completely a nerdy, obscure "to see if I could" kind of thing but no this works.... really good.

I have an old as shit car because I am broke, I love my 2006 toyota sienna but as reliable as it is, it has 190k miles on it. Problems are going to happen.

I am super enjoying being able to drive so little that most of the time when I do drive somewhere it is mainly just an excuse to run the car for a little bit because it is bad to let it sit for too long.

The relief of not necessarily needing a working car to get to work is also IMMENSE.

When my car has some dumb bullshit problem and it takes awhile to fix it... well guess what it just sits in my driveway/at the mechanic until it gets fixed and I go on with my life.

The difference between that and the panic that comes from trying to coordinate getting my car fixed while also still making it to work (with asshole bosses who dont care about "excuses") is honestly stunning.

So for the first time in my life I have a job I can commute to on a short, reasonable bus ride.

The bus system is free in my city (olympia) to boot!

My whole life I have been stuck having to use cars and didn't really think about it much beyond feeling generally that it sucked I couldn't get anywhere without a car.

The quality of life difference is fucking staggering. I never EVER want to sit on a highway in traffic to commute to a job ever again.
