    If a tree falls in the woods, but there are no KPIs to track this, did it really happen?

    @leaverou Just in case this isn't rhetorical.
    From my days as a Product Owner at a large enterprise. Maybe, but you don't act on a rumour. And you don't waste time in meetings on things that are not actionable.

    @leaverou KPIs: The numbers stakeholders painstakingly track, then decide the results were (a) wrong or (b) didn’t reflect mitigating circumstances, so they proceed to do the vanity project they were always gonna do anyway.

    @leaverou

    Performance Indicators exist solely to be gamed, not to evaluate tangible metrics.

    So:

    The tree was already in an advanced state of structural instability and therefore doesn't count towards our KPI's;

    Additionally the top of the tree fell outside the statutory published boundary of the woodland area and so doesn't count towards our actionable goals for this accounting period;

    Until a full analysis is made of all circumstances leading up to this alleged tree-fall incident it would be inappropriate to comment on the causes or ramifications at this time.
