Please understand something: if a Disabled person has to ask someone else for access to something – an elevator; a written transcript; an environment that accommodates their disabilities – that thing is not accessible.
@codeability so much this. #UniversalAccess means no #Gatekeeping of accommodations. If we have to ask, that’s also a privacy violation via required disclosure of health status.

Feb 2, 2023, 8:13 AM@codeability there's an issue with MS Teams automatic transcribing that they're grotesquely incorrect at a 40%+ rate. And seeing the presenter to a 300 people training notice mid-session that "oh some.. ugh.. 'transcript'.. enabled itself [along with the recording]" and promptly shut it down…… with it sometimes lowkey-helping me with my my APD, especially if any phonetic help is of use in a recording when a word sounds gibberish to me no matter how many times i play it back, it feels awful even when it means just that little bit to me.
@codeability it annoys me so much when I point out to an organisation that they have only put out information in inaccessible formats, and they respond by offering to send me, personally, an accessible version.

@codeability this is a trying to get it right question. What about things like assistive listening devices?
I was staying at a hotel after an accident that left me with a broken arm.
The hotel advertised itself as accessible to disabled individuals, which it more or less was accessible to individuals on a wheelchair, the soap dispensers in rooms required both hands to be used. Suffice it to say, I couldn't use the soap dispenser and they did not provide a replacement.
@codeability It's really sad how many disabled people even forget this. So many products claim they're 100% accessible when they aren't. Usable, yes, sort of, but not completely accessible.
@codeability had this today on my rehab hospital of all places. Door is on a spring closer (firedoor, why?) & Opens outwards. Almost imposible to open with a wheel chair to get in.
Only been using a chair for a few days & it is only temporary but i already have an even greater understanding of those who have needed them for longer
As a student w/ mental health conditions, this is a constant struggle.
I have multiple diagnoses from doctors in the US. Going to university in the UK, they constantly tell me I can receive services if I submit a claim to disability services. Disability services won't help me without a GP note. The GP won't assess me. My old US diagnoses are not validated and they tell me I need another assessment. But they won't assess me. So, no services. Not accessible to me.
