Me: Hm, why haven't I played #RailroadTycoon for so long? It's one of my favorite games of all time!
Installs the game...
Me: Oh, now I remember. It requires a numpad to play!
No way to enjoy it on a laptop :(

Mouse controls so precise they feel modern. Cross-platform save transfers in 1988. A solar system you can explore uninterrupted. #Starglider2 did all of it–and reviewers at the time loved it. So how did it become "almost forgotten" while messier, slower contemporaries became legendary?
You wake up with no memory. A dark goddess rules the world. You find her temples, her followers, and fragments of your own past - but never the scroll that explains it all. #TheAching is a morbid mood piece that makes not knowing feel like closure. Just be prepared to fight a #1980s parser along the way. This nostalgia trip is equal parts breathtaking and exasperating.
The best option so far seems to be "Jellyfin MPV Shim". This simply launches an external MPV instance to play the media natively. Requires some configuration and IT understanding which not every user in the family may have. If I just set it up and leave it on, could work. Though still looking for a better alternative. Suggestions welcome!
I've installed the "official Jellyfin Media Player". This is just a browser embed, i.e. not better at all. In fact, it's worse, because it embeds Chromium which supports even less media types than Firefox. Through "Flatpak", I've installed the old QT Jellyfin Desktop, Delfin, Fladder and Switchfin. All have native players, good. Two of them don't even start. The two other crash after playing thirty seconds of video. Great, exactly what I expected from a monster like "Flatpak". Thread continues.
Live transcoding and playing at the same time is too much for the RPI. The same media all play fine on native players, without a hitch. Transcoding should not be necessary at all. The issue only occurs due to the browser not supporting the media type. <rant>Making the default client browser-based is simply stupid in our diverse age for a topic dealing with audio and video!</rant> Thread continues.
Key question: can anyone recommend a #Jellyfin client which runs a native video player (not an embedded web browser) on a #RaspberryPi?
Background:
I'm trying to replace my #Kodi instance on a RPI4 connected to the TV. The client-server model of Jellyfin seems very advantageous. BUT: the default client is just a webpage. For any media which uses a container or a codec not supported by the browser, the server will transcode live the contents into another format. Thread continues.
With #MegaManV, a little studio conjured up a graphically and gameplay-wise brilliant masterpiece on the small handheld, despite the notorious resource constraints of the #GameBoy. While its four predecessors often just recycled old NES ideas, this space adventure featuring the Stardroids successfully broke the boundaries of the unwritten Mega Man laws. Discover here to what extent this fifth installment still stands out from the series today.
Since Sonny Bonds' duty by the book in #PoliceQuest was created in cooperation with a real police officer, the action always remains realistic—but it doesn't forgive any mistakes: every wrong step means game over. Whether the VGA remake can still lure aspiring police officers today, despite the death screens from #Sierra adventures and despite the original's clunky gameplay, is what you will read here.

Before Betrayal at Krondor, #Dynamix was already dungeon crawling. #SwordOfKadash mashes up Rogue, Wizardry and Gauntlet into 256 hand-crafted screens of real-time, trap-filled brutality. It's not fair, it's not gentle, but it might be the most atmospheric 8-bit crawl you've never played. Save states recommended. Imagination required.
Forced Weddings – Monkey Island and King's Quest VI
As a companion to the recent treatment of Prince Alexander's grand quest for love, here is a narrative analysis of its ending, compared to a contemporary game using similar motifs:

What if the villain's lost sense of humour was locked in a bottle and unleashing it weakened him? 1987's #SlavesOfTheAbyss isn't your typical #FightingFantasy book - it's a genre-bending investigation that proves #gamebooks can tell stories as complex as any RPG.
Yet another one of those games that isn't even listed in the MobyGames database. Despite this, #DoomsdayLostEchoes is a professionally designed graphical text adventure with a physical release and its own website. Except for the very small target group of #AmstradCPC enthusiasts, this production specifically for the CPC remains, unfortunately, largely unknown.

#Clockwiser: a Rubik's Cube flattened into 2D, plus gravity, minus mercy. You don't move individual blocks - you rotate entire sections. The twist? Some levels demand you solve them completely in your head before making your first move. Released 20 years too early for mobile, but worth revisiting now that you can skip the "unreasonable" ones.

What do Abraham Lincoln, William Shakespeare and Henry VIII have in common? That's right, they grace the cover of the text adventure #Waxworks. But probably only because they are so recognisable in our collective memory. After all, who can picture wax figures of Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay or Tomás de Torquemada, who are actually mentioned in the game?

What if #GameOfDeath met Pitfall – but forgot the thrills? #Fist2's open world promised #BruceLee's pagoda, but delivered a maze of samey screens and forgettable foes. #KareemAbdulJabbar's shadow looms large. Was this ambition or just bad design?
