@monokrom Agreed. I’d like to invite anyone on the @atypi board to speak up here about where they stand.

Or on Instagram, politically and ethically compromised as that platform certainly is.

Or anywhere, really, as long as they share it widely.

Still impressed with companies that understand their product and respect their community.

angus johnson, the author of the clipper library for polygon clipping (as well as offsetting, and recently triangulation), has announced he is stepping back from software development after nearly 50 years and is looking for someone to take up the reins. if you happen to know anyone who already has a special interest in clipper, and would want to maintain it in C++, he wrote a note and left some contact info here: https://github.com/AngusJohnson/Clipper2/discussions/1118

With the newest widths of Dunbar I've been excited to collect a series of articles and interviews from @letterror and @fhardwig and the latest addition from @ferdinandulrich and @typeoff

And I'm looking forward to collaborating with others in the future.

I have no idea what effective marketing should be like for a type foundry in 2026, but I know what I like to read and what I like to make, so I hope other folks will enjoy it too!

Let’s see if this works: LettError Trial Fonts, with tiny character sets, no axes, features or any of the fun stuff. But if you need to pitch something, do not have FontStand or Adobe Fonts, and don’t like the feature-rich type testers at LettError.com, this might be the thing. A Taste of LettError!

I drew a typeface in 1991 based on the design of a record that came out in 1995. While I can neither confirm nor deny that I am psychic, I will read your future for a modest fee. I sense all the typewriter fonts are here: https://letterror.com/articles/ncnd-typewriter-guide/

Gold lettering on the TM studio door, demonstrated by Rocco Barbaro. Design by Benji Knopper. Magnificent work! (Gilding is not part of our course, though we all got to see the process close up and even tried applying a sheet) #SignPainting

This Saturday we celebrate Processing's 25th birthday with international Processing Community Day events 🥳 RNDR studio in The Hague is hosting one of those: https://pcd.rndr.studio/ I love talking about Processing so I am happy that I am one of the speakers! I will be showing all the fun ways in which we use Processing, P5 and ml5 in art education. #Processing #programming #art #TheHague #denhaag

Macos,“login items”: any guesses to what the difference between “Microsoft OneDrive”, “OneDrive” and “OneDrive Sync Service” could be? Oh, and in what way is “Microsoft AutoUpdate” different from “TeamsUpdaterDaemon”?

(not very micro, nor soft)

If you need any springy math animations for your AI-is-thinking-please-hold I have some. @drawBot

Footnotes is the periodical bulletin of applied research in type design, edited and designed by Mathieu Christe and published biennially by La Police.

Issue F is out now, and once again it’s a delight – with three in-depth articles and a special feature offering six perspectives on record cover #typography. In addition, it includes a Proofs section with specimens of type designs by Footnotes contributors. Get a glimpse and a rundown of all 17 #typefaces: https://fontsinuse.com/uses/80393/footnotes-issue-f

And if you want to get your hands on a copy, head over to https://lapolice.ch/publications/ Psst: To provide ongoing support for type research, consider a subscription. #TypeDesign #FontsInUse

Open source projects will tell you they have no choice but to allow slop, because doing anything else is a form of gatekeeping that will exclude too many potential contributors.

Nothing could be further than the truth, though. When the review queue is a non-stop machine gun of giant, bogus drive-by patches, the good contributions will inevitably fall through the cracks.

Eventually, the contributors you actually want—those who care about the long-term health of the code base, building institutional knowledge, improving their craft, mentorship—will simply leave, because they will realize their limited time and energy is better spent elsewhere.

A blanket ban on LLM contributions is not impractical, idealistic, or too radical—it's just common sense.

Footnotes F is out and it is a delight! Type research at its best. Interesting to read about typewriter experts Bernard and Josef Haas (who were consulted for that weird forged document using Trixie/NCND last year). And how does one get ones font into the Proofs section? Order your copies. #typography #typedesign #journal #research

This probably counts as an #ad, but I was very polite and I wrote every word.

@letterror Dexter also began the week thinking about fish.
