I'm super excited to announce the title of my 3rd novel, coming later this year:
COMMON ACCORD
A blue-collar space opera set in a future of inter-species trade & politics.

Anyone have recommendations for an inclusive, well-moderated, creative-focused Pixelfed server? I'm an author of sci-fi & fantasy novels, looking for fedi-based services on which to build out my online presence.
Specifically, when I send out my newsletters, I'd like to occasionally be able to link to images & videos while retaining control, without managing my own infrastructure. I'm already a member of makertube.net, looking for a pixelfed equivalent.
Looking for 2 people to help with upcoming projects:
1: an astronomer & beta reader to “fact check” (for internal consistency & plausibility) my upcoming blue-collar space opera. ~275 pages
2: someone to talk to with knowledge of 10th century German folklore, esp. Fae/fairy equivalents from the Palatinate or Thuringia regions
I have a little $ for knowledgeable consultants
Please boost 💜 DM if this is you

@knbrindle Correct. They’ve already implied that they think there are more trans people transitioning than there should be.
It doesn’t matter or not to them if those people are happy, a cis person is always preferable to a happily transitioned trans person.
On Monday, the Scottish NHS are going to revoke the right of trans people in Scotland to self-refer to their gender identity service. They will have to convince a GP to refer them.
No clinical reason has been given. No trans people have apparently been consulted. We only know because this information was leaked ahead of time.
If you’re thinking of a referral to a Scottish GIC, do so TODAY.
A MEMORY OF BLOOD AND MAGIC
Arin’s future was foretold at birth: They would be neither girl nor boy, and a witch besides.
When the prejudices of powerful neighbors intrude on the idyll of their isolated Freelander childhood, Arin’s magic is awakened and their life spirals into violence and tragedy.
Then an unexpected ally leads Arin to an unsettling understanding: Their magical abilities are rooted in the very pain and trauma that has overturned their world.
I'm so excited to announce that my debut novel A Memory of Blood and Magic is now available for ebook preorder on all major ebook vendors (DRM-free!).

I'm in sight of the runway for publication of my first novel, A MEMORY OF BLOOD AND MAGIC, which I've mentioned & excerpted & discussed with you all on these hashtags over the last year & a half.
I'm wondering if any of you who are already published authors in the fantasy space would be interested/willing to read an ARC and give me a review/promotional quote for it.
If you're interested, please DM me ☺️

Edit: I should link the blurb:
A UI annoyance that I’ve been living with, but would absolutely love if you’d fix:
On both iOS and Mac clients, the toot char counter scrolls with the text area
This means that the more I type, and the closer I get to my char limit, the more likely it is to scroll off the top of the screen 🤦
Eg: when I typed that emoji? Can’t see my char limit anymore. This is where I need to be most aware of it, so I have to constantly scroll up as I type every few words
I'm working to selfpub my first 2 books. I'm curious about your experiences:
- Do you put a teaser/excerpt of your next book at the end of your books?
- have you done that across series?
- If you bought your own ISBNs, what size bundle did you buy? Any regrets?
- Have you created your own imprint? Why/why not?
- If you publish physical books, what trim-sizes and print formats have you found to sell best?
- Any other advice or lessons learned?
#Artists of Mastodon, I want to #commission (for $) 4 #character #portraits to go on the cover of my blue-collar space-opera WIP.
I've got descriptions for the 3 humans & 1 alien. I'd love to discover what they all really look like.
I'm looking for “realistic stylized painting” like you'd see on an old-fashioned movie poster.
EDIT:
Thanks all! I found my artist! ☺️☺️
Oh... that politician who called us "filth”? He's winning in the polls and will probably become governor
For anyone who has read this far, and still is like: “I don't know what to do or what to say in support... I'm afraid to ask friends I know about their experiences…”
Ask *me*
Seriously. I train agencies how to be more gender-affirming for a living. I will be happy to talk to you about the realities of being trans if it will help you be more confident being vocal about human rights.
Feel free to DM me if you genuinely want to learn
Learn about the bills that are being brought and passed into laws that seek to “eradicate” (their words) and invalidate trans lives
Yes, inclusion matters. Representation matters
But right now, what matters even MORE is your voices. Because we need more than representation. We need informed advocacy & people who will raise their voices against this horror
Representation in your books will not matter much if it's *illegal* to be who we are. That's coming—soon
If you don't have any trans friends, maybe consider why that is… Because we're more of the population than you may think. Chances are pretty good you know a transgender or gender-diverse person—they may just not trust you enough to be themselves around you
If you do, get to know them & their lives & their struggles before writing about them. Because lives are on the line
Lives are literally at risk here in this "free" country. This all applies to many other minorities, but right now, it's open-season on trans lives & largely socially acceptable in many circles to call for us to be “eradicated" from society. A politician in my state called us "filth”
When people write trans experiences, especially right now, they are taking people's lives into their hands. That's an enormous responsibility. Think hard about it. Consult your trans friends
#WritersCoffeeClub 1-25 writers who write outside their gender/sexuality/race etc.?
A lot of people have posted cogent and complete answers to this that I largely agree with. Authors *have* to, no question
There's one consideration, though, that is rattling around in my mind that I need to speak out loud:
Right now, across the globe & including the US (where I live), transgender & nonbinary people are being murdered & allowed to die thanks to misinformation and invalid stereotyping
1/x
#MastodonHelp #Fedi So, this is a weird thing that's happened to me a couple of times... Maybe someone can shed some light?
I wrote a post this morning, and it does not show up in my Home feed. It does show up in my Local feed, on my profile, & other people's feeds (several who are not on my server have starred it...)
Just curious what might cause this. The post in question is 22 minutes prior to this one, w/ WritersCoffeeClub hashtag and "10-31 horror?"
Any insights welcome!
Reaching out again for leads on an #artist to #commission for #artwork for the covers of my #fantasy duology, "Paths of Memory"
Specifically want to find someone who paints (digital or phys)... I'll do the typesetting, etc; I just don't have the skills for the actual artwork
The style I'm looking for is "Lush Fantasy Oil Painting" w/ landscape & figures
Would love to $$$ a #trans, #queer, #BIPoC, &/or otherwise marginalized #artist, but open to anyone
Reply or DM w/ leads & please boost 🥹
