I recently moved my toolchain to SDL3, which means I used SDL2 for 12 years, it has served me really well, one of the best pieces of software around, and completely free.

they liked my idea! but jokes aside I hope GOG can pull this off https://www.pcgamer.com/games/gog-wants-to-bring-back-physical-games-but-its-a-very-very-complicated-thing/

I think I got it right, Aonuma is also using Ocarina of Time Remake as a way to also train the team and trigger new insights to carry into future development. https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/News/2026/November/Ask-the-Developer-Vol-24-The-Legend-of-Zelda-Ocarina-of-Time-Chapter-1-3230318.html

gotta say I'm not a big fan of this clang rule "modernize return braced list". Ditching the type makes the code less "readable" imo. this sample is short but longer code gets tricker

no matter how many tools they invent, few things beat the satisfaction of reaching this point by yourself the first time. I think only people who did so might relate.

🎃 I'll leave you with some B-horror-halloween-starter-pack suggestions 🎃
Have a great weekend!

The situation itself is shitty to original dev, but people stealing stuff and then complaining once they also get “their stuff stolen” as well will never stop being funny to me.

It’s great GamerNexus investigation into TVs spying ppl brought public awareness to something that was rarely discussed. In Portugal LG is being sued and request for retailers to stop selling the devices. don’t think it will stop it but it’s a step forward https://executivedigest.sapo.pt/lg-enfrenta-acao-judicial-em-portugal-por-alegada-espionagem-domestica-atraves-de-televisoes/

Quest of Dungeon expansion 4 is finally live on Steam, free update.

New Mansion mode, Monsterpedia, better gamepad support, steam cloud, Chinese language (Traditional and Simplified) support. A lot of the engine was updated, now using SDL3 for window/input support. Tons of bug fixes, tweaks and probably plenty brand new bugs. Deploying to prod a friday!!

I suspect Github won't stay free for much longer for all public repos, this is unsustainable. https://www.tomshardware.com/software/github-report-highlights-massive-influx-of-ai-generated-code-sixfold-increase-in-activity-over-one-year-required-extra-4-million-cpu-cores-and-160pb-of-storage

I think I accidentally pressed some weird shortcut combo while typing and this thing showed up. keeps getting more bloated, no wonder everything is slow.

firefox has this new "copy clean url" where they remove tracking IDs etc, and I think it should probably be the default option in most cases. and then a "copy full url" as option. or at least an option to set the default behavior

Steam is not perfect, for neither developers or players. But at the moment one of the "best" solutions we have. The reason why Tim Epic is mad is because they have to first create something as good and then refine it for better, and they haven't even reached that point. At this rate it would have to be Steam messing up for them to rise, and Gabe is playing the cruise game, just chilling and waiting. And that makes Tim so angry I bet.

oh right so games/software can be decompiled/cloned at will and nobody did anything; but it takes 1 person trying to remove spyware from their TV OS and they got banned. I am not surprised obviously. Honestly if this is the type of stuff someone is using those tools go for it. They could disappear for all I care, but if the tools exist, show 'em. source: https://bsky.app/profile/esqueer.net/post/3myphka2iyk2o

Do I know anyone who understands/reads Chinese Traditional and/or Simplified? I would like someone to just take a quick glance, not extensive, at a game to get the general impression. Not to localize or fix anything btw, I just want to have general impression of a third party because I can't know for sure.

not sure if this info is useful for anyone, but if you want to look into which controllers to make sure your game supports on Steam (and the icon glyphs too maybe). 58% of my game play sessions are using a controller, majority with an Xbox controller followed by Steam Deck.

One sad aspect is that at this rate, maybe in 5 years, it will be hard to even explain to new generation of people entering tech exactly what they missed. Kinda like trying to explain why the internet was a better place years ago.

Good news, GameMaker 2 is now free for commercial games if you use the new GMRT runtime on desktop, mobile and web. https://gamemaker.io/en/blog/gmrt-update

if you are grabbing an iPhone Duo, I updated Quest of Dungeons last night to take advantage of the bigger screen, it adapts to folded/unfolded mode. also added a virtual DPAD and bunch of other things. v4.0.1. let me know if bugs as I don't have the device. have fun.
