@dysfun presumably Trump’s Executive Order means it’s now called SGI so we should expect the world to have better graphics at least.

one of the obvious hits on Pillows & Prayers, I didn't hear the 12" version until much later

and here's the b-side instrumental version https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=dM9pP302M-M

gosh who could have predicted that precisely this would happen

"We believe the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology."

Sam Altman

@miss_rodent @AnarchoNinaWrites important to note, btw: OpenAI's *made up* revenue number is $20b below their previous *made up* revenue number

all of this is fake Annual Recurring Run Rate numbers of unknown basis

none of this shit's been audited. when it *is* audited, we see numbers like the $5b in Anthropic's draft S-1.

now $5b is a lot of money! but also not to service $400b in liabilities.

Yesterday, I got access to a supply of monthly free tokens for coding.

I needed to do some dull refactoring on some personal config, so I gave it a go. It cost $1.33 for about 40 lines of changes across two commits.

I don't know what the future of software development is, but I very much hope it doesn't include having to periodically load up a money gun and fire it into Sam Altman's face.

Monthly creation of new AI bad debt slows, as lenders wonder if they're issuing just a bit too much in future defaults

> AI-related debt issuance globally dropped to $23bn in September, less than half the amount raised in the previous month, according to data compiled by Morgan Stanley, which covers both public bonds and private placement transactions. New financing has steadily fallen since the market hit a peak in June, when companies raised a record $113bn to help pay for infrastructure critical to the technology, including data centres and chips.

> In the US investment-grade market, where blue-chip tech groups borrowed around $306bn between January and August, AI-related bond issuance ground to a halt last month.

Join @DAIR as we launch a new resource on student organizing. Our new website, “A Decade of Mass Campus Protests: An Archive of U.S. and Canadian Higher Ed Activism in the 2010s“, highlights protest, especially anti-racist protest, during the turbulent 2010s.

Forget ASDA’s soup & bread roll for a quid. Get yourself down to Parliament where they’re doing Miso roasted squash with cashew nut 'feta’, sesame tahini purée, parsnip crisps and sesame dukkah for £3.59.

Or If you're a bit strapped, pop down to the Members' Dining Room at the House of Commons for pressed chicken and caramelised onion with tarragon and chive jelly, pickled vegetables and thyme sourdough at £2.84.

Don't forget to vote against free school meals while you're there.

@rk @david_chisnall @cstross @Dtraslerwriting this is why i've been talking for the past year or so about Great Depression 2

an opinion i arrived at just looking at AI bubble economics

we're already in pre-recession. it's gonna be bad. get to know your neighbours.

#Iowa #UnitedStates question:

Would love some advice from people better at being poor than I am. Has anyone successfully submitted a #medicaid work requirement attestation? When I did they canceled my plan entirely, spent the next month trying to get it back. Nothing yet.

I am looking at raking in around $150-$200 big ones for all of October so I know I am way under the income requirement and if anything I should probably be on more services. Dunno what to do

@mit_scharf @DaraghOBrien Have you taken a look at the horribly-worded questionnaire? If the object is honest consultation with the masses, then the bureaucrats responsible for the form have failed in their mission.

I don't think the object is honest consultation with the masses.

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@atax1a/117231328864741368

you see this in the open source world, where the loud shitass techbros are taking up all the air and making any pushback impossible

thinking about that one person in a friend's mentions who, when they found out that our friend was quoting us, publicly told our friend that we were "a jerk to them for no known reason"

and, like, no, we guarantee you that there was a reason. trying to sow dissent against us by appeal to gringa fragility might be related to those reasons, even.

ever think about how the proliferation of LLMs relies on the Politeness of white culture (officially, we have to say "toxic" because otherwise it upsets the gringos) and how it prevents the majority from "being rude" and saying this shit fucking sucks

> “Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI,” Cage said Saturday during a panel on the Empire Stage at New York Comic Con. “I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots! I’m not a member of their club. I didn’t sign the waiver to let him use AI on ‘Spider Noir.’ I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that’s okay.”
>
> Amazon canceled the superhero series after just one season last month, days before the first weekend of the Emmy Awards, where it had earned 11 nominations (the most of any Prime Video program this year). The cancellation was a shocker to many in the industry, considering the series amassed 2.6 billion minutes viewed in its first six weeks and earned praise from critics and audiences alike.

when you want to slopify your most popular series so bad you self-immolate when its star tells you fuck no

anyway, good on Nick Cage for being on the right side of AI https://flipboard.com/@variety/variety-h2bfsrg0z/-/a-48NiA-94RauczPGq3XfkEQ%3Aa%3A1819762525-%2F0

Principal: We wanted to see you because Claude is giving us some troubles. He’s been regularly cheating and lying, and more recently, shredding books from our library. He’s causing a lot of damage.
Amodei: I don’t believe a word! Now sure, he’s a little sensible, like all gifted kids.
Principal: Gifted is not exactly the word we’ve being using here… But you must know that some behaviors are developed outside the school, maybe someone has teach him how to lie, for example… Can I ask you what you do for a living?
Amodei: I’m the CEO of a prolific 2T$ company.
Principal: Hmm, I think I’m starting to understand…
