Tonight’s drink, a variation on a Dark & Stormy (aka Stormbringer, as described in Cursed Cocktails). It’s a variation because I only had Fever Tree pineapple ginger beer on hand so it had more of a tropical bent. I used Kraken for the dark rum. The flavor didn’t go over well with 2 of the drinkers. I OTOH appreciated its “tiki”-like flavor. #cocktails #Bookstodon
Today I read Legends & Librarians (Pandora Pierce) and enjoyed it so much I raced through it and then I read the sequel, Myths & Manuscripts. Perfect cozy fantasy with magic in book and libraries plus romance. Yes I read *both* today. Now listening to make that joy last a little longer. #Bookstodon

Cook pasta in an entire bottle of white wine: Brown butter, red pepper flakes, a bottle of wine, pasta, anchovies, parsley.

Tonight’s dinner: Roman Oxtail Stew (the Italian slow cooker, Michele Scicolone). Goes into the slow cooker in the morning, gets stir in of celery, bittersweet chocolate, pine nuts, and raisins near the end. This is one of my family’s favorite meals for the richness of flavor. Served today with mashed potatoes and a Caesar-inspired salad (grape tomatoes and red onions added). I am so full now. #homecooking #cooking #food
I finally got more green Chartreuse, so I made a drink from SL Rowland’s Cursed Cocktails. The Last Word! (The Final Word, in the book)
1 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Luxardo Maraschino
1 oz Green Chartreuse
1 oz London Dry Gin (used Nolet’s)
Shaken over ice and strained into a glass
My limes were not great for this - they were tiny and I had to squeeze multiple to get enough juice which ended up a bit too bitter. Otherwise, deliciously herbal and refreshing.

Last night’s drinks accompanying (well really after) Chicken and 90 Cloves of Garlic
White Kina Negroni
1:1:1 ratio of London dry gin, Noilly Prat dry vermouth, Tempus Fugit Kina L’Aero d’Or with lemon twist
Antica Kina Negroni
Same except with Carpano Antica instead of the Noilly Prat dry.
WKN hit a hit hard upfront but was tastier and smoother after some of the ice melted. AKN was good immediately, the roundness of the Carpano Antica really helping. Will drink both again.
Tonight’s dinner is chicken with 40 cloves of garlic. It’s actually more like 90 cloves because why not. It’s also flavored with dry vermouth so perhaps a white Negroni will be in my future. #homecooking #food #cocktails
We did a variation on the theme of the recent run of Chartreuse cocktails. Necessary due to running out of core ingredients. So, the newly coined “Not So Puritan”:
⁃ 1 dash orange bitters
⁃ 1/3 oz Genepi
⁃ 1 oz sweet vermouth (Carpano Antica)
⁃ 2 oz London Dry Gin
⁃ Lemon twist
Really enjoyed it, highly recommended!

It’s April 2 and time for my monthly round up of my #FiberGoals. I have done 5+ min of fiberarts for 92 consecutive days. Mostly spinning, sometimes knitting. I also made hexiflats (3 handspun). AND, I completed one project from spinning through knitting (my S2KAL Jaunty). Other things - like progress on the Advent calendar - have fallen away. My Chambered Nautilus spin is complete! Up close I kind of think it does look like Chambered Nautilus, although it looks different than I expected based on the original braid. It’s heavier than I expected which is due to the tencel versus merino. I was going to make socks (also the winning vote getter in my poll) but now that I feel the yarn I don’t know if that’s the right fit. Will go into stash while I ponder.
I recently finished this gorgeous (if I do say so myself) spin of a Polwarth/Silk blend from Fossil Fibers Cephalopoda series. I think it’s destined to be a shawl or a hat, probably combined with another yarn because this is only 174 yds. #handSpinning #textilearts #FiberArts this is the one I was referring to in my earlier comment thread with @madgeface

The original braid of Chambered Nautilus and one of the singles being spun. I’ve finished one bobbin and I’m in the middle of the second with a third one to come. #HandSpinning
I starting spinning a merino/tencel blend braid - it’s part of a Cephelopoda subscription from Fossil Fibers called Chambered Nautilus. I’m aiming for a nice 3 ply yarn. I was thinking the tencel would make it nice and strong for a woven bag, but then I realized it would also make great socks. I can’t post pics in a post with a poll so see first comment.
What should i make with this yarn when it’s ready?
We have a sad tale today from Manchester Piccadilly station.
This is Chocolat. Or at least that's the name printed on their foot.
They're a lovely, cuddly black kitty who was sadly separated from their owner on Platforms 3 & 4 about 19.14.
We heard a tinkle of broken glass and helped their owner tidy up however she had left before I could pass this lovely kitty back to her owner.
Unable to find her on the nearby train we are a bit lost.
Please share this far and wide, across any social media and maybe we can help reunite this poor kitty with their rightful owner.
We will ensure Lost Property here look after her in the meantime.
I’ve just read Cursed Cocktails (SL Rowland), a cozy fantasy also filled with cocktails (duh), food, and even (spoiler!). I’m listening to it now to savor it. Last night’s cocktail, because I went to the website for this gin a few days ago and found this recipe. Sweet Gwendoline has fig flavors and is finished with French white wine. Despite this, the “gin flavor” was still pretty forward. I made this on a whim and did not have a fresh fig for garnish which I would definitely prepare for next time to emphasize the fruitiness.
I used to drink very few martinis but my appreciation and understanding of them is growing.
I pretty much only use LinkedIn now to play games. I actually do like some of them. Patches, zip, queens, and tango. I play my word games elsewhere. #games
Me: I definitely don’t need any more spinning fiber. Look how much beautiful stuff I have that I haven’t spun yet
