More lyrics in the Alt text because…apparently you can post infinite characters in the alt?? :-D

🎶

This is how you reach the stars
No more looking at the past
Come a long way this time is ours
Brace yourself and firm your stance
You don't quit when you're this far
Show these people who you are

My haters we shush em
I see them, they're looking
They dream of what we get out
Don't see the work we put in

Good morning.

A rainy morning, full of reflection and pondering. A good morning song that pairs well with solitude and decision-making.

I just realized that I missed the 10 year anniversary of the release of 22, A Million.

No exaggeration, that album changed the course of my life.

I had a decision that had been crippling me since Jan 1 that year. I didn’t want to make it. I knew what to do, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I’d always loved Bon Iver.

The day it came out, I bought it. Sept. 30, 2016.

Put on my headphones to listen, by myself. I remember exactly where I was.

The first line of the first song:

Which as always, brings a song to my mind. It’s been on repeat in my mind pretty much since he passed. Thinking about my “legacy”

Feeling that so very few care for me enough to cry, why should I keep caring? Keep exerting myself for them when I know it’s to no personal benefit? That doesn’t make sense.

Except—when you feel a deep love for someone, it’s really not even a choice you make anymore.

It’s the outpouring of your heart. Their reaction means very little to it. (2/8)

I had to go to a funeral of a friend today.

I wondered, as I do.

How many people are there out of a feeling of obligation? How many actually *cared*?

You can have a large sphere of influence, and care deeply for many…but there’s no guarantee of reciprocity. In fact, it’s unlikely.

I do care deeply for many people, and yet I can narrow down to 3 or fewer…only 1 with certainty, that will actually feel any deep grief when I die. (1/8)

🎶

Let me burn the night away
By thinking of the simple things
you say to me
That get me through the day
You keep me wide awake…

Spent an hour and a half driving—45 minutes each way—to work on a job out of town that was “ready for me.”

I had specifically told them on the phone, and marked it out on the floor, how they should frame it to work with what needed to happen.

Their “lead carpenter” didn’t think I knew what I was talking about, so he framed it his own way. It was wrong and won’t work.

Grrrr.

I mean, sure…I will bill them $180 for the wasted trip. But that’s time I’ll never get back, over one person’s pride.

I have never done a poll before, not sure I have enough followers to get a true feel for the answer. But I’m going to try:

I have been asked by someone (who will remain unnamed to protect the guilty) to never wear this article (in this post — https://mstdn.social/@chrismcobble/117377122451338762) in their presence.

Is this brilliant, or embarrassing?

Got to drag a 40 gallon water heater full of water up a flight of stairs. A little over 400 pounds. (Yes, I did it. I know I don’t look strong enough to. Determination) I couldn’t even get a handtruck to make the turn at the top of the stairs, so it had to be drug and come out by force. I use the word “stairs” loosely, as the bottom one had rotten off and they were steep and rickety. Super great activity for guys with previously broken backs to be doing!

This is why my back will hurt tomorrow.

I’ve got nothing left to give today. Signing out with this:

If you want love
You gon' have to go through the pain
If you want love
You gon' have to learn how to change
If you want trust
You gon' have to give some away
If you want love…

@roknrol

Remember how I said I liked telling wealthy people no?

First work conversation of the day from a very well off guy doing a $500k “remodel”:

I need to you to come out today and talk to me about two changes I need to make that need to be done before drywall (gets hung tomorrow).

Oh, well actually I have two other jobs scheduled today so I won’t be showing up at your job today.

*crickets*

:-D

Good thing I woke up in a good mood, seems like everyone else I’ve talked to has not :-)

He didn’t pull me over. I slowed down to 10 over, he looked me in the eyes, we both nodded, and I kept driving. He must’ve seen the despair in my eyes.

When you pass a cop shooting radar when you’re doing almost double the speed limit and your heart rate doesn’t even go up…you just may be a little too numb in life :-D

And yet, somehow, I don’t feel numb enough yet. Numb to the wrong things, perhaps.

Life is just…really life-ing.

@WrenArcher

What kind of voodoo do you have going on, exactly…that your posts do not appear for me? In my timeline or in my newly discovered “Lists” feature? This has happened several times, where people are commenting on something I never saw! I don’t think it’s a setting on my end?

There are life lessons all around us, if we are observant and thoughtful enough to draw them. There is wisdom in the trees.

Like this tree, probably bent over earlier in its life by a flooded stream. Instead of dying, it sunk its roots and changed directions and started growing towards the light.

You know, even if you fallen…been knocked down, pushed down, pushed over…it’s never too late to correct course, and grow towards the light.

May you grow towards the light, today.
