the cultural web that the show existed it is less tangible in the remaster than it was in the original, and if you have a chance to watch TOS with the original graphics, do so
it's superior, if only because its true to itself, not to a corporate vision of yet more money
you not only don't get to see their work, but you also don't get to experience what folx in the late 1960s saw. you can't compare it to now, you can't wonder how it was done, you can't see its connections to other media at the time, etc.
all of this stuff had to be figured out and solved by some very smart people, and that work is just erased, completely obliterated in all of its unique, quirky beauty, replaced by a revision, as if their work doesn't matter
its art and its just gone in the remaster
you know, one reason I prefer the original graphics of Star Trek: The Original Series, rather than the graphics from the remaster, is that the original graphics were not only charming/quaint/etc.
they were INTERESTINg. they were made at a time when you couldn't do CGI
some of the most interesting stories of TNG, imo, are the ones where they encountered long lost human colonies that aren't part of the Federation

anyway, look, Nooney's book, The Apple II Age, is fine. it's not _good_, but it's fine. i don't think it's a waste of money to get. maybe even worth getting for its particular history. just don't expect much about personal computer users' relationships to their computers
there's an article about Nooney's book that describes it as "celebrating" the users, which is such a weird thing to say about a book that has such a sneering derision for computer users
