Rhetorical question for programmers: does Brotli have a partner service? Is it Caulipower?

So, understanding that I opened said fortune cookie tonight, the final week of October, this must mean that until next September I am gloriously fucked, right?

TIL about the Olivia Hill rule.

rpgmuseum.fandom.com/wiki/No_f…

It starts "If you're a fascist, you're not welcome to play this game. It's against the rules."

As you can imagine, it causes fascists and adjacents to out themselves.

Obligatory post concert post about seeing #Dogstar tonight.

It's a whole serving of "nope" in a can!

Fuck Graham Linehan.

Despite my love of Dylan Moran, Katherine Parkinson, Richard Ayoade, Chris O'Dowd, Matt Berry, and Bill Bailey, I wound up giving away Black Books and the IT Crowd DVDs to a used bookstore on the condition they sell them for a buck each.

I felt bad funding that prick and not knowing his views well after he made them known. Never again.

A person is racist if they start off a statement saying "I'm not a racist, but..." then says something racist, like they juat don't feel safe, or it's these people "that do all the crimes."

(There's caveats, of course. It's impossible to be racist against white people because "white" doesn't exist, there is no white country with white history or white culture, it's all made up. But there IS racists who say "it's black people who do all the crime" and happen to be Hispanic or Asian ...and vice versa.)

With me so far? Cool. You're ahead of the game.

It stands to reason that if someone says "I'm not transphobic, but there's no way a man can ever become a woman" or "a woman taking hormones will never be a man", they're actually transphobic.

This is a story about The Proclaimers.

AI in FOSS projects is not just an annoyance. It is a campaign. Deliberate, specific and coordinated.

The goal is simple: convert, collect and capture. Those who trust AI to run their security will eventually depend on it. And Big Tech holds all of the cards. The price to keep up will keep rising, and when projects can't afford to keep up, the winners get free operating systems and programs to take control of, and the end users lose. Less power. Less freedom. And if AI Boosters have their way, users all eat from the same trough, one token at a time.

Ask yourself: If you didn't like computers in the 1980's and 1990's, you could do without. Then the Internet came along, and you embraced it. Not because you had to, but because you can. Checks didn't go away. Music is still available on CDs. Movies still have theaters to play in. So why when it comes to AI that nobody has a choice?

Consider the following:

They aren't "just asking questions" anymore.

This is a siege.

#fuckAI #breaktheloom #fightthefuture

"You have to use AI to fight AI."
"AI is inevitable. LLMs are the future."
"Resilience demands AI code reviews. You cannot be safe without it."
"If your work is not 100% safe, it is zero percent safe. There is no place inbetween."
"We will lose developers if we ban AI. It's better for the project long-term if we permit AI commits."

All of these are false statements.

A year ago I never thought I'd be doing this, but here I am.

When a video game company has lost the plot.

"...But Dell and CloudFlare also donated to DHH's Omarchy."
"#FuckDell and #FuckCloudFlare as well."
"...And Dropbox..."
"...Also #FuckDropbox. What is so hard about understanding this?"

Think you are going to buy a Mac Mini at a store?

Probably not. AI fans are likely to sweep them from inventory as their TOPS processing ability makes them useful for local model use. (I have no idea what "open weight" means, and when I ask I don't get a straightforward answer, so I don't care anymore.)

Mac Studio, even worse: Apple announced a feature on M5/M6 to link multiple Mac Studios for faster AI usage.

Don't be surprised if they are gone after launch.

Laundromat thoughts: is it really Artificial Intelligence? Would "Authoritarian Intervention" be more accurate based on how it is being forced on people?

I mean it doesn't roll off the tongue, but it is far more accurate when considering the new catchphrases from Big Tech:

"Surveillance isn't incompatible with privacy when AI is involved."
"AI is inevitable, there is no going back."
"Technology is dead as an industry. If you worked in technology in the past, you work in AI now."
"AI is the future. If you don't embrace it, you'll be left behind."

If this is the "innovation" billionaires want to make, shut it off. Now.

Remember why this is spreading:

AI acolytes are not chanting "you can't live without AI" because they themselves believe it. They are chanting it because they want Anti-AI stances equated to terrorism.

These dumb fintech things.

Musk-Owned X releases X Money with up to 6% APY interest... Except like Chime, Dave, and other shit, it isn't a bank. So if they decide to nuke it, rugpull, or default on your accounts while paying off the rich when they close the service, you are owed nothing.

When you see big claims please read the fine print. FDIC/NCUA exist for a reason. Rich people can shrug off thousands in losses, but the rest of us can't.

I like most of Gen Z... “It just makes me want to dig my heels into a career where I never have to use AI, even if that’s a career that isn’t going to pay as well,” (Meg) Aubuchon told The Verge.

"The more young people use AI, the more they hate it." Caught between fears of job loss and social stigma, Gen Z's opinions of AI are hitting new lows. 295% cancellation rate of ChatGPT installs after signing the DoD deal. Two issues:
1) Like many protests, this is ebb and flow. Count how many silently come back.
2) Anthropic gets 150k downloads, depite helping with the initial Iran strike.

Personally, would leave them both. But I have different standards.

So Shia LaBouef is on the same keel as Mel Gibson as far as I care. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/feb/18/shia-labeouf-arrest-new-orleans

Another stint in rehab, or 23 rehabs from now, he'll just keep saying it again and again. Moving to the south makes sense... Have a happy irrelevance, Louis Stevens.
