@frabjousday The other day, someone on here reframed "pour from an empty cup," as instead, "you can't boil an empty kettle."

Pouring from an empty cup results in nothing happening. Trying to boil an empty kettle will ruin the kettle, then the stove, then it will burn your house down if you keep trying to do it.

Or the concept that when we run out of spoons, we reach for knives.

People who haven't experienced it need to know how *harmful* it is to try to keep going when you have nothing.

I found this photo in an eBay listing for a batch of used pinball-machine balls in July of 2000.

I didn't bid, but I messaged the seller letting them know they absolutely made my day with this photo and they replied with gratitude. I even set it as the desktop image on a computer I used in the arcade workshop I worked in at the time.

It's been sitting on my hard drives for 26 years, and I no longer wish to keep it to myself.

I opened up the back door so the dogs could go outside, but I did not join them because I needed to take care of something in the bedroom first. Well, it seems that Miss Callisto Bell does not see any point in going outside unless I am also going to go outside because there will be nobody to throw the ball and then I decided to make this little video of her being ridiculous and yelling at me about it.

VoiceOver and Zoom on the MacBook Pro with PROLED is amazing, but it has a few bugs. Zoom specifically lets you scroll with one finger but you can't scroll in lists with one finger while magnified yet. The dynamic island will also not bring down Spotlight either when zoomed in as well. VoiceOver I think, has some major accessibility wins. You do NOT need to interact in many places on the touch screen, and you can even jump keyboard focus to the touch cursor. (1/2)

Enormous shout out to the guy who replied to me last night suggesting that the correct way to add alt text to an image is to put "DM me for alt text", in order to make it impossible for LLMs to scrape it.

I'm not blind, but I can't imagine it would feel particularly empowering to have to ask for a simple accommodation every time they came across an image in their feed.

I hope everyone has a fantastic friday!!!! Remember to drink your water, take your meds if needed, and to just be awesome.,

(I don't know who needs to hear this, but you can buy cat toys in bulk)

Thank you to everyone who's trying to remind us to enjoy this victory, even if it's not a perfect one, even if there's still work left to be done.

Fedi is heavily populated by neurospicy folk, and one of the things that's common is we don't have working reward centers in our brains, it's part of why our executive function doesn't work right

So we're used to being told we're not allowed to stop and enjoy our victories, because we don't do it on neuromundane timelines. We don't allow ourselves to stop because we're afraid we won't get moving again if we do.

But we need the rewards, we need whatever dopamine we can get from them, to fuel the work that comes next. And we need to support each other so we can get moving again after the celebration, because accessibility means ensuring no one gets left behind.

Some mornings, getting dressed sounds less like a simple decision and more like packing for a cross-country trip.

The forecast says 42 degrees when I wake up, 76 by lunchtime, and a chance of rain just when I need to go somewhere.

So what am I supposed to wear? A sweater, shorts, rain boots, and a sun hat?

And there’s always somebody who says, “Just dress in layers.” By three o’clock, I’m supposed to be carrying half my closet around like a traveling yard sale.

I would appreciate it if the weather could pick a season and stick with it until supper.

Get AI to write your app store changelogs. 'bug fixes and performance improvements' app after app after app is just so lazy. Who's the sloppy one now?

Language has a lot of redundancy.

The word loophole actually means a holehole, since a loupe is a hole in the wall.

The Sahara Desert actually means the Desert Desert, since Sahara means desert in Arabic.

Chai tea means tea tea, since Chai is tea in several languages.

And a PIN number is literally a personal identification number number.

Okay so I didn't miss the pack of coyotes after all. I was sitting down to my second coffee when I heard them start up again and I wasn't going to miss the chance to capture them. I haven't moved that fast in years and this is some of the coolest shit I've ever heard. Check this out, yall. Recorded with my IPhone 15 and cranked up so you can really hear them.

We've been working on Windows performance (among other things) - thanks as always for everyone who's taken the time to share feedback about our latest changes 🙏

So, I’m in the kitchen, cooking tea, and a timer sounds on the Echo.

“Alexa, stop”, I says. To which it responds:

“That command isn’t supported in this vehicle. Please check the screen when it’s safe to do so and try again”.

😂

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone happen to have the HWI file for KeySoft 9.00? Humanware shortly released a new build of 9.00 after the Apex was released (the build number was 534 if I remember correctly). As I wasn't able to find a direct link to the installer, I couldn't download the file before Humanware, in typical Humanware fashion, nuked all the old BrailleNote files from their server in late 2023.
For the record, here are the KeySoft versions for the Apex that have been archived. 9.01, 9.02, 9.10, 9.22, 9.31, 9.41, 9.50, and the never officially released 9.51. If anyone has any other lost builds, I would like to get those archived as well.

The best apology is changed behavior, period.

Oh no guys! I have time traveled, it's 1:00 AM again! Heeeelp! What ever shall I do! Well, I guess I have to deal with this second 1:00 AM now. Lol.

If you get a second 1:00 hour tonight, feel free to absolutely screw something up. This is the one time of the year where you'll get a do-over. See? I might only be 27 but I can give good advice...

Welcome to my first 1:00 AM! We shall see what I end up doing for this hour before I have fun time traveling. Lol.

Me: "Alexa, spell Debian Trixie."
Her: "Debian is spelled d, space, e, space, b, space, i, space, a, space, n, and Trixie is spelled T, space, r, space, i, space, i, space, i, space, e."
Uh…that's not quite right somehow.
