It was a fun experiment and I enjoyed listening to music with the impromptu family room setup, but returning to the main music room setup, the first word that came to mind was: effortless. These are big speakers driven by a powerful amp with lots of headroom, they sound really great.

The room is… not so great. I’ll need to treat some surfaces and figure out this room correction thing.

I get why people like headphones but, c’mon man, speakers. Move some air.

I’ll pull a fiber optic cable over to the laptop for lazy iTunes shuffling later maybe, and then the old speakers and new amp will go back into the office where they will totally overserve my needs (the subwoofer returns to the main system.)

It’s being driven by a ten-year-old TEAC CD player that I misplaced the remote for so I have to jump up and change tracks like an animal. That’s part of the charm.

I impulse bought a WiiM Amp which has room correction built in. It also routes the bass to the subwoofer so the bookshelves can relax and focus on what they’re good at. This setup clearly reveals the limitations of my venerable Paradigm Titans but the whole things sounds pretty good. Of course it will sound better once the sun sets and the room gets dark.
