    @Lana ...and also, moving them to a location where definitely nobody outside of ICE can find them is a totally great way to protect them.

    @woozle @Lana It's really fun to live in a world where satire is indistinguishable from real news. Like, I would not be shocked at all if ICE started to sequester underage girls on an island. Even if they worked out an arrangement whereby the girls were shipped to Little Saint James I wouldn't be surprised. I'd think that was a bit on the nose, but not surprising.

    Fucking hell. DHS needs to be abolished, and we need to do with all ICE officers what we didn't do with the Nazi war criminals.

    Yeah, I've been saying "satire is dead" for awhile now -- it kinda depends on exaggerating bad actions in order to reveal their terribleness, but that no longer works when any exaggeration you can think of is at least highly plausible and possibly something they're already literally doing. :blobcatupsidedown: :spiral_eyes: 🔥

    Further down someone tries to point out this is real... Yeah, no way to know at first glance.

    Honestly, my first thought was they were all being moved out of the spotlight so they could be forced to carry to term.

    And if this *IS* true -- then that is my prediction.

    @Lana @zagone @woozle @Legit_Spaghetti i don't think we have nearly enough information to say that, not all of these people have been in ICE custody for 9 months, and i'm pretty sure almost none of them were, and migrant minors might be at risk well before ICE gets its hands on them.

    I'm sure you can easily imagine that someone on the right would get a very different interpretation*, that would be as obviously true to them as the "ICE raped them" is to you.

    When too much is left to the imagination, there is no way to agree on anything, and we see the other side as crazy, i've spent enough time arguing with people on the right to realize that.

    *if i really need to spell it out, the interpretation would be that these women are having an "anchor baby", and might be abused by another migrant into that.

    @tshirtman

    The PBS article, a short interview with a journalist who has been working on this story for 6 months, gets into some of the details:

    • many became pregnant due to being raped en route to the US (best estimate is "about half")
    • ...but we really don't know
    • much of the available information (the only reason we know about this at all?) came from ICE officials (there can be good/reasonable people inside a rotten agency)
    • The bit about the island does appear to be entirely satire; the real problem is that many/most (not all) of them are being sent to this one inadequate facility in TX
    • There is a theory that this is being done specifically to prevent them being able to get abortions, though there is no direct evidence for this.

    @woozle @Lana i thought so too ... are we getting the TrumpEpsteinICE files now? I resesrched a little and sadly this seems not to be satire. Pregnant teenagers - some only 13 years old - have not only become pregnant in ICE custody but also been mistreated and denied proper pregnancy care or care at all.

    @Ilka4You I guess the only question is whether or not the "undisclosed island" part is true -- but it would hardly make them less villainous even if so. The cruelty is the point.™ @Lana
