This is only my own experience and does may not by applicable for other people. Keep that in mind.
If I want freedom, I go and enjoy free time with those I do enjoy.
If I don't want annoying services, I just vote with my wallet.
Of course, this is not an answer for all the problems.
Technology should serve us.
For many occasions, when the people tell me that I need to scan QR code to see menu at the restaurant or do something similar.
I just tell them "I don't have a telephone„
And they often get confused.
Some of the places they get me bypass all their services just because they don't know what to do and is too much to handle.
I got to drove some buses for free, because the bus driver didn't know what to do.
I get interrogated on the airport, in a much less time, also because there is much less information to be extracted.
I wasn't bothered by email and spam after all, just simply telling them I don't have telephone number, email address or home address and they leave me alone.
Of course there was a time that that was me who was trying to get their service and I need to be compliant.
But that's very much depends on situation and what I need.

@oldrawgabbit my phone broke, so I tried using just my laptop. I am a VERY tenacious chap. For instance, lived for just on 20 years with no physical ID, book, card, driver's license, the lot. A sim card was hard, bank.. ha ha not so hard to open and account with no hard ID. Eventually got one , needed it to see the Penquins at Boulders Beach, 3 years ago. Phone? One month. Had to get a phone....😭

We can just not provide a feedback at all
And since we dont have to wait for a waiter to bring us a menu thanks to QR code, we are fine with it

@oldrawgabbit One change for me: I don't want to scan a QR code for anything. If it's in public then somebody's probably trying to scam me. If it's from a product or company, it's them trying to cheap out on an inconvenient digital menu or instructions instead of easy to use printed materials.

1. Delete the original post
2. Make a post saying "hey, sorry I accidentally posted an AI image! I've taken it down now, thanks for pointing it out :)"
3. Get on with my day

The hell we're living in is allowed and maintained by us. We know what's killing us but it also drives more and more aspects of our lives. The bilionaires that are so hungry for your data? They're people, they're us. We feed them. They're easy to starve. We know how. We also love our phones and apps too much to do sh!t about it.

Thankfully QR code as the only way to see the menu at a restaurant isn't popular where I live. Most places have them, but most of those would also just give you paper menus by default. Also, you wouldn't lose much by not having a bank account at all. Almost everything can be paid in cash.

@oldrawgabbit It’s amazing how I meet someone in person (this weekend it was a non-profit organization doing a survey) who says "just scan the QR code." And I pull my flip phone (phlip fone?) out of my pocket and wave it around, and then they miraculously find a paper and pen I can use.

Random side note: There’s a Black Mirror episode where people rate every interaction you have. So if you greet someone in a friendly or not so friendly manner, you are given a star rating that floats and follows you everywhere. I’m not insinuating that you shouldn’t be kind, but rather that everything is constantly pulling for some type of information. I swear we are not far from this BS in real life and already there in some instances.
