iPhone Duo is already at 7–8 weeks here, but so far I’m resisting the urge. It’s not just in impulse buy territory, even at carrier pricing (~€1600), and the compromises are just too many. Also my eSIM nightmare last year has me loathe to repeat the process
Now: “Ships 22 Jan”
Holy moly that stock was limited
Still super conflicted about the Duo. But there’s that nagging voice on my shoulder going ‘…but think of the apps you /could/ build for it…’
At least I have time to think about it 😛
The voice won.
@stroughtonsmith the actual unit count that i saw last night was super super low for an Apple launch. i’m surprised it didn’t go faster tbh
Oct 16, 2026, 1:38 PM@stroughtonsmith my luck was amazing it seems. Got in pretty much at 8 on the dot, maybe like 20 seconds after 8?
Oct 16, 2026, 1:43 PM@stroughtonsmith yeah I’m looking at second week of November here. I got mine from AT&T and the site was having a ton of issues.
Oct 16, 2026, 2:34 PM@stroughtonsmith It is really a shame so many of us will need to rely on a simulator for development. At one point I was asked by App Store Review for a screen recording of some stuff from the visionOS version of one of my apps. I don’t have one, though.. That prolonged my visionOS release until I snuck it in later. Hopefully we’re not asked for on-device screen recordings of things on the Duo.
@stroughtonsmith I’m (so far) resisting the urge, but there is an Apple Store ten minutes away and I’m not doing anything on the morning of the 23rd…
@stroughtonsmith your bank account lost
@vmachiel that’s next year’s problem
@stroughtonsmith Not surprised. Won me over as well but then I looked at delivery dates….
@stroughtonsmith It's gonna get me too I'm sure, just not before there's ample time for a creasegate
@stroughtonsmith I got my UK order in 17 mins late, my estimate is 7th to 14th Dec :(
@stroughtonsmith I was trying to connect to the store, which was showing “pre-order from 19:00 ICT” from 18:58 until I was finally able to get in at 19:11. Delivery date was already December. So I don’t know WTF that was all about.
