Now Coppice is on iPad, of course it should support new page types, like PencilKit drawings. Only problem is PencilKit is still not available to AppKit apps, only Catalyst apps, so I won’t be able to round-trip it. I think the way I want to handle this is to make PencilKit pages an alternate type of image page, and render out a bitmap alongside the PencilKit data. That should let me provide compatibility with older versions of Coppice, too

Updated to the latest Windows 11 release build; Explorer.exe is broken in all kinds of ways, with the kinds of bugs and quirks that make me think they vibecoded the shit out of it and just went full send 😅

✈️ Coppice for iOS is now in TestFlight. For this round of testing, I’m looking for new and existing Coppice for Mac users who also have an iPad running iOS 27, and want to kick some tires.

Putting 2 and 2 together…

Apple overhauled the external display APIs in iOS 27 for unclear reasons and replaced it with a ‘scene accessory’ API, which I believe powers the iPhone Duo’s both-screens-at-once entitlement-gated API.

Enter HomeView, with its ‘CarPlay’ API, which is clearly a stopgap solution that will please nobody.

But if we’re beaming UI from a connected iPhone, the external scene accessory API suddenly looks more promising. That way you could do ‘real’ apps without an App Store

The voice won.

⭐️ Speaking of apps, Broadcasts, Pastel, Scarlet, Take One, and Lights Off are all ready to go on iPhone Duo day one. Even if that day one is now sometime in February 😂

Still super conflicted about the Duo. But there’s that nagging voice on my shoulder going ‘…but think of the apps you /could/ build for it…’

At least I have time to think about it 😛

At least Apple can afford its next bribe now!

Now: “Ships 22 Jan”

Holy moly that stock was limited

iPhone Duo is already at 7–8 weeks here, but so far I’m resisting the urge. It’s not just in impulse buy territory, even at carrier pricing (~€1600), and the compromises are just too many. Also my eSIM nightmare last year has me loathe to repeat the process

📊 App developers! Are you still able to clearly distinguish which parts of your own projects or codebases have or haven’t been touched by agentic coding (Claude et al)?

Today in the wonders-of-AI/nothing-is-sacred category: somebody has built a Nintendo Switch runtime for iOS and Mac that lets you run console titles natively. It [supposedly, I ain’t trying this stuff] runs games such as The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Link’s Awakening at 60fps

🚨#Xcode 27.1 has been released! 🚨

Xcode 27.1 is *identical* to the Release Candidate. If you have that, you’re all set!

Woke up to another Codex usage reset today, so I’ve locked Astra in a room with the iOS Simulator and have it thoroughly testing every little corner of Coppice against the Mac version 👌
