the uh, out of the box experience is a bit...dated.
not many people use this as a desktop, do they?
Human after allhumanhorseshoes@mastodon.worldOct 14, 2026, 2:36 PM@dysfun Is it simplified English?

@humanhorseshoes it just says english. i must admit i am not paying a vast amount of attention to the dialect
Oct 14, 2026, 2:50 PM@dysfun bah, what's wrong with a traditional command line experience
- gaytabasedysfun@treehouse.systemsOct 14, 2026, 2:50 PM
@ahnlak don't be silly, it's got twm
- Oct 14, 2026, 2:53 PM
@dysfun bloody hell, that's a blast from the past - pretty sure I have a twmrc from my university days on a 3.5" floppy somewhere...

@ahnlak so you see, a little dated.
UnlikelyLassUnlikelylass@mspsocial.netOct 14, 2026, 3:44 PM@dysfun @ahnlak I installed window maker for a different kind of dated experience, but I'm from the past, so it's nostalgic for me. I was frustrated to learn there's no accelerated graphics on an intel n100 processor, though. :/
(I expect things to shift as more people find themselves looking for a new tech stack, but time will tell)

@Unlikelylass @ahnlak yeah, graphics drivers seem to be the biggest problem. particularly modern cards.
Oct 14, 2026, 6:59 PM@dysfun the desktop didn't shock me, the init on the other hand...
ddevault is currently worhing on a netbsd distribution with a better userland as far as I am aware

@lhp oh is he?

@dysfun https://alpinebsd.org/
very, very early stages. But ddevault has a habit of seeing his ambitious projects through and creating stable communities around them. So I am optimistic.
