everybody's posting like "RIP debian" type stuff, but i don't know who we're kidding here with any reading that isn't pretty much just "RIP software as a whole". like exactly what un-sloppified upstreams do we imagine are going to be left for debian to package?

@brennen I mean, it's all of a piece? If we had a non-slop kernel we could put a non-slop distribution on top of it. If we had a non-slop distribution, we could substitute a non-slop kernel (I can think of at least two ways to do this) underneath it. But if A and B point at each other and say "I can't do anything because they won't do anything" then nobody does anything

@mcc yeah, like, i don't disagree, but i guess my assessment is that the thing which ~everybody is doing is getting on team slop. A and B and C and D and so on down the line are somewhere between reluctantly going along with the program and full-throated embrace.

@brennen This is why I am trying to craft an escape route of a disk image that boots Redox directly into Servo.

It won't work, and it will take me like a year, but it is better than just going "well, we can't do anything, so I guess I'll let the anti-life equation win"

@brennen my hope is that after a painful process of confronting how we've never had what we thought we built, we will start to slowly assemble a new foundation of humanely constructed parts around something more meaningful than "software licenses"
