@robinadams there is something deeply wrong in the English psyche. The Conservative Party, the dominant force in UK (but really English) politics, has had a major plank in its platform for about two decades that there are too many human rights (via the European Convention on Human Rights) and they need to be rolled back.

They didn't actually repeal the convention while in power but the fact they keep promising to do so shows there is a substantial proportion of the English electorate who actively desires this.

@fazalmajid @robinadams As I recall, a major driving force behind Brexit was the desire to get Britain out of the European Convention on Human Rights.

It seems that the Convention was an Unacceptable Constraint on British Sovereignty and Holding Back Progress etc., and we needed to "take back control” and assert our freedom to, I don't know, torture asylum seekers or something.

If a key point of your platform is that people should have fewer rights, you might not be the good guys.
