Maybe I would be more neutral towards Microsoft if I wouldn't have to use their products 5 days a week.

Teams: Here's an icons that shows you have ONE new message.

Clicking that icon does NOT take you to that one single message. You have to scroll and expand groups to search for that ONE message, because fuck you

I hate clothes shopping.

It's all sizes for thin and tall people. The shops are full of clothes for them.

But those thin an tall people do not exist, or else, why isn't THAT clothing all sold out and the rest is stuff for people like me? (apparently stuff fitting me doesn't sell. The piles of unsold clothing in the store "sell" for some reason)

But whatever I try, I feel like, this isn't made for my proportions, but for some entirely different species of people. I don't know for whom though.

Got a Macbook Pro that's a few years old? Get yourself a P5 Pentalobe screwdriver, open it up, clean the fans. Enjoy a quieter and much cooler laptop.

There's a handy guide on iFixit for that. Should have done this much sooner

dafuq, 2000Mbit seems to be the fastest internet here in Munch. Meanwhile Asia: yeah, we're rolling out 20GBit in the cities... just plug this fibre cable into your modem

there's also a 5Mbit option for EUR 299/month

not that you really NEED 20Gbit as regular joe, but still...

I'd be more open to AI if it would help people stop making Youtube Videos for every 2 paragraph topic and just help them putting their thoughts in writing.

But no... AI writing sucks, and people still make YouTube videos for shit that'd be better explained in writing.

Steam overlays, Nvidia overlays, XBox/Windows overlay... I'm showing my old age here, but why is this shit opt-out instead of opt-in?

And why does it keep turning itself on again (hey, Nvidia?!)

Really, why is shutting my PC and its notifications and overlays and crap up so much work? :/

It's really just the headline, but it feels like it applies to pretty much any Corporation that has the full MS Teams + MS Office + MS Slopilot + MS Authenticator + MS Shitpoint installation going.

Maybe you don't care about the EU's digital sovereignty. But let's be serious for a moment - the chance of getting rid of MS Teams does sound exciting, right?

If Microsoft had some guts, it would have rebranded the entire company. Sure, it might feel silly once the hype wears off, and might even be a testament to dumb CEO hubris, but hey, how can you let a douche like Zuckerberg beat you to that?

Apparently Sinagpore's first PM said people should strive to speak proper English and not Singlish.

But then you travel to Glasgow. And I have no idea what they're saying. It's supposedly English. And stuff there works just fine.

Quick UI tip for programmers: if you populate a list (combobox, etc.), consider sorting it by some criteria. If you're not sure, you're rarely wrong with alphabetical

not that the idea is wrong. Do test your software! On real hardware. Don't just optimize for theoretical targets if you can avoid it. Be practical!

I like 80.lv but recently they posted some really questionable things about AAA dev (although they're not yet on the OMG UE5 UnOpTiMiZeD DEVS SUCK! bandwaggon)

So if anyone in non AAA is wondering - YES, we do exactly what they think we aren't doing. We DO test on min-spec. What's the point of having a min spec if you don't test against it?!

(also throwing AAA titles with a 2D game that should run on a beefed up Amiga into the same bin... oh, well)

life goals: never having to use any Atlassian product ever again

Transitioning away from gamedev? I turned 49 and I still love games as ever. But I've been wondering if game dev (the industry), and IT in general, is still the right career for the next 15 (20???) years.

Anyone here doing something totally different now? (maybe just do gamedev as a hobby?)

What are you doing now? and how hard was it?

For some security reason (security theater?) MS/IT(?) doesn't allow me using the Teams app from home, but the browser based version is fine. Yet, MS decided to change the GUI for one but not the other.... now everything is in disarray

high dpi is still fucking broken on windows... or in .net. or in both. probably in both.

also why do fonts still appear thinner in high dpi? linux and macos don't have that problem

It's amazing how Confluence cannot find a page even if you exactly enter the page's title into the search field. wtf?!

Honestly, if you run a studio of a certain size and complain about shitty confluence pages, hire a technical writer!

- you have a professional helping your engineers putting thoughts into words.
- your expensive engineers can do something more worthwhile than fighting with Confluence.
- You have a person who owns documentation and who might even enjoy doing this.
- You have someone who can easily apply consistency to your entire docs.
