I've been thinking about what "from scratch bars" means. it doesn't mean you have to freestyle! all it means is everything you say during the set has to be written during the set. in London we're doing 18 minute slots so that should be plenty time to write at least a verse or two. of course you can freestyle if you want but you don't have to :D

but yeah i also just think no one's gonna mind if you read out some old stuff. see it more like a strudel library you've written ahead of time. that's why i got the "show bars" button in Light. so it can start with a blank screen and then boom it's there. is that against the spirit of it? maybe a little. let's try EVERYTHING and find out

i've figured it out

come and watch my talk about the "fuck off ai music" movement at Peckham Digital in a couple weeks from now
https://www.tickettailor.com/events/peckhamdigital/2434095

i have no wish to 'convert' or 'convince' AI-art-creators to stop doing/creating AI art. instead i wish for them to go away and leave me+us alone. i see it the same as bigoted people! i'm not here to educate u, please leave

seeing some art communities try to make room / welcome / fix ai-art-creators. to me it says "goodbye Lu". goodbye

luckily this seems to be a pretty rare view but its more common in laptop/computer-based communities (surprise surprise)

yes we are all trying to figure out what AI taking over the world and our jobs means. that doesnt mean we let it into our art spaces

if u turn up to one of our events in london doing something AI, no one is gonna stop u, but i think you'll be swept away by all the human-as-possible collaboration going on instead and no one will be interested in your AI art project

(yes yes yes i'm using the term "AI" to mean "big bad AI" dont shoot the messenger and dont be that reply guy)

algobars generation

new algorave format just dropped:

EXQUISITE CORPSE

- Everyone plays for 1 hour.
- The first+last 20 minutes of your hour overlaps with the previous+next performer.
- It starts+ends with an everyone-welcome-jam.
- We can do the same system for the mic(s).
- We can do the same thing for visuals by overlapping two projectors.

new technology unlocked

tech bros in 2026: "we need to make AGI so that it can tell us how to stop the climate crisis."

AGI in 2046: "stop using fossil fuels."

my reaction

can't believe pastagang figured this out the hard way when we could have just watched this talk

(the talk was amazing - by Linda Rising about group intelligence)

some people try to reassure me about ai by saying that local models will come along and save us from the big cloud companies.

but i have questions: who's training these local models? what are they trained on? is it still costly to train them (both €€€ and environment)? can i run it on my laptop? can i run it on my phone?

but no one has answers. if anyone does have ideas for these please do let me know (i'd love to receive some good news for a change)

cellular automata

99. paper sand

been working on cellpond's sequel quite a lot recently.. the new engine runs on paper, processed by your brain and hands. really quite excited about this. bringing crafts to the simulation, combined with some animation and lots of primary-school-style cutting and sticking. hoping i can get a workshop ready for alpaca or something
