Please RT for reach: Do I have anyone following who knows or knows someone who would know how to access old UK court records? I’m looking for a case that was eventually dismissed but was held at Southwark Crown Court in 1991 - 1992.
@realhackhistory @neil might have some pointers...
Few notable records from Southwark Crown Court in the National Archive, probably closed though. If not then Section 4 here may help. https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/criminal-court-cases-crown-court-since-1972/#4-how-to-search-for-records
@geoffl thank you!
@realhackhistory Have you tried here: https://www.bailii.org/form/search_advanced.html ?
@jonfairbairn I have now, thanks.
Oct 10, 2026, 6:05 PM@realhackhistory I would start by asking a librarian from that region.
@aarbrk bit of a complex ask, I think I will try phoning the court itself on Monday.
@realhackhistory @aarbrk
Freedom of information act
@mamapanda @aarbrk request to the court or…?
@realhackhistory
How about Matthew (not the singer) Sweet, the scholar who humiliated Naomi Wolf over her misunderstanding of UK court records live on the BBC?
@realhackhistory
@misseli Do you know law librarians in England?
@realhackhistory Have you approached the court in question?
@Bot4Sale @realhackhistory This. Surely, if there are records, the Clerk of the Court must know where they are held.
@Bot4Sale I’m going to call them tomorrow
