I'm a director of a wood stove company. I know my product harms my customers and their neighbours but the work is undemanding, pays well and affords me plenty of time with family. They'll be banned soon so there's no point resigning or moving to a more ethical industry now.

Counterpoint: splitting wood (when I can get into the garden) is about the most intense exercise I ever get. It's possible to use a log burner in a way that prevents combustion products from escaping into the room; I have an air quality meter to prove it. Run the burner hot enough, and you get a blue flame from secondary oxidation of the carbon monoxide produced by the burning wood, so you only emit CO2, not CO. And I'm not poisoning the neighbours, because no one really lives nearby, and the nearest person to us has a log burner too. Oh, and our wood all comes from the garden; it would have emitted just as much carbon if we'd just left it on the ground to rot.

A gas cooker, on the other hand, or a grill of any kind — those things are death to air quality. Try borrowing an air quality meter and seeing what happens when you grill a couple of nice chops.

@fesshole So you don't build woodstoves with catalytic combusters that cut emissions by 90%? Your company is crap.
