    @aud preach sister.

    I had an in-person meeting this morning. Like, a vendor came and sat in my office and got on speakerphone with our VoIP provider.

    So much peopling. I need a nap now.

    @aud I knew he was coming, and it was on purpose to move a new VoIP system deployment forward, but still.

    sure there's more important fights, but it's a bit fucked up that morning people's hegemonic status and resulting morning-centric infrastructures are beyond critique, and so few people are willing to acknowledge that many of us are constantly debilitated by it.

    legit not joking. victim blaming is the response 99% of the time whenever I try to explain the completely unnecessary impacts and punishment I've experienced from childhood until today from having DSPD (a "disorder" that, like so many others, is only pathologized because of its relation to the "how well can you conform to the factory's work conditions" question)

    @lina AGREED COMPLETELY.  Thankfully, in this case this has to do with trying to find a meeting time that works for people all across the globe, not because morning people are demanding that we're all up and fucking at em at 8 in the bloody morning.

    So it's the rare example of a morning meeting that I'm okay with, because we're all doing out part and they don't expect me to somehow be a morning person and understand that it's quite early for me.  For some people, it's 5 PM when we meet.

    But I *have* had those morning people meetings and *fuuuuuuck that*.  It's harmful and not okay.

    ah that's good, yeah i have space for that situation. I'm honestly kinda fine with being the one who gets screwed by the clock when it's an unsolvable timezone issue, since trying to exist in a morning-centric society means that my sleep is fucked as a baseline and it might not actually be any worse than is usual for me.

    my morning meeting today was a 90-minute biweekly that ends at the time I'd ideally be waking up, and I'm in the latest timezone. luckily I can mostly work my own hours, which is one of my top requirements when job hunting given my locale... the alternative is perpetual sleep deprivation, which isn't an option anymore.

    @lina UGH.  You're in the LATEST timezone and the meeting happens when you'd be waking up?  Jesus christ.  I'm so sorry.

    Yeah, I don't mind too much when it's timezone stuff on my end either, especially as they explicitly moved the meeting to be later for my benefit.  I guess it's not just the meeting time but also the fact that in this instance they're clearly trying to make it as low-pain as possible, which I appreciate.  Like a, "the fact that you care is appreciated and noted" sorta deal...

    it's so frustrating to try to explain it to people and they're like "well why don't you just..." or "it's not a big ask", and I'm like "ok so you wake up at 7am? let's schedule regular work calls for 4am and have most shops/services close at noon, and let's see how that works for you over weeks/months/years" ... my body is, on average, 4-5 hours delayed compared to most morning people, so that's pretty much the situation.

    and the solution isn't "they have to get on my time" because the problem is fundamentally that we're all expected to be on the same time. it's yet another manifestation of capitalist/factory logics of efficiency and making labor fungible being the top priorities.
