for the record: the strap has a rather elastic quality, and I think I was holding it at tension without realizing and let it go and it launched the guitar right into my lip
the other, equally 100% viable alternative, unfortunately, is that my hand just went "womp womp" and launched a guitar into my own face because sometimes that happens as I am clumsy and have 0 spatial awareness.
I still cannot believe I fucking slingshotted a guitar into my face while trying to put it on and gave myself a broken, fat lip. Jesus Christ.
Icing it did it help, though. But yeah, that "guitar break" I was gonna take to improve my mood sorta missed the mark...
You DO have the right to learn. You DO have the right to ask people for help. You CAN ask questions and build a society.
Do not give up those rights.
suggesting that people give up their ability to learn a skill in order to instead rent it out from an unauditable, unknowable, unquestionable third party that has disempowered people who already have that skill
is not fucking democracy
that is the opposite of democracy
that is creating a central, unquestionable authority that is not beholden to you.
also? "democratizing skills"? You do not have a *right* to the skills of other people. So even if this authoritarian style enclosure wasn't already making a mockery of the term, the fact that it's literally built on the stolen labor of the individuals who it is disempowering (by removing their ability to gain pay for their work) IS NOT DEMOCRACY.
ohhhh man one day I will get used to morning meetings
today... today is not that day.
just in this one specific way though
the US should return to its original thing (emulating the French)
These leaders are shit and I hate them.
Extrapolating from this, it seems the third entry in a series MUST involve flirting with a bog hag. Hence Half Life 3 will mostly center around flirty bargaining with a Bog Hag to rid the world of the combine.
lists of games where you flirt with, or are flirted at, by bog hags:
Baldur's Gate 3
The Witcher 3

even though I don't know how long it might take me to successfully even start doing something like, hearing good things about the NetBSD community and knowing that people would be willing to help and that I wouldn't have ol Dicky Torvalds gatekeeping anything is super heartening. Like I've wanted to learn this stuff so it feels *possible* here.
migraine-y NetBSD update: okay, so! Haven't even tried to get the trackpad to work yet, but I did recompile the kernel with the `amdgpu` driver only to realize that I don't think the GPU in this laptop is supported yet; the documentation for NetBSD states that any support over GCNv1 is experimental... and it turns out this laptop's GPU is GCNv5 😅 ooops!
I do think the OS sees it (which makes sense because the laptop works very well on Linux) and when I load up the `amdgpu` module or have it built into the kernel, I do see some messages in dmesg about a certain device on the PCIe bus that "isn't configured". So I'm guessing that in order to use this GPU with acceleration, the amdgpu driver/module would need updating... of course, that is something I have no experience with and have no idea where to even start. And it might require mesa updates, too? Who knows.
I do know that FreeBSD (or OpenBSD? I forget which) has an `amdgpu` that supports this GPU because I tried it out on this laptop before NetBSD.
Either way, though, recompiling the kernel was ridiculously easy. And for more immediately lower hanging fruit, I could try and get the touchpad working maybe.
why is it hot AND cold. what are you doing, Portland, stop. I don't like it.
trying to close the browser tabs in my heart and failing miserably
once all the source code downloads, `amdgpu` here we come!

my netbsd dmesg is *fiiiiiiiilled* with this as I try to use this USB NIC that just keeps... being really slow. But it IS downloading!
(I nabbed a USB wifi dongle that should work but it won't show up for a few days).
I'm assuming that's driver?/device? fuckery. Whatever the issue seems to be, though, incredible slowness aside (mostly coming in as idleness followed by things actually downloading, it seems), the software/src/etc that is downloading is fine, sooo.
computer bad, guitar good
BSD, short for "Benedict Software Danklin"
the 'engine sounds' of my brain working are nothing but muttered curses, today
yes, it's operating. the frequent blasphemy and cursing is just how you know it's working.
