    @kzimmermann from inside tmux try:

    tmux display-message -p '#{config_files}'

    check all of them, maybe there's something?

    I use 3.9, doing git pull and compiling it, mouse works

    @hjakovel thanks for the tip. I checked and there are no conflicting directives from multiple config files (only one in my homedir actually exists), and turns out that variables that I set (prefix, etc) do apply correctly.

    And the weirdest thing? If I manually run Prefix-: and run this statement, mouse support comes back! I think it might have to do with the execution order of the config file? If you don't mind, this is what I have (quite simple):

    ```
    set -g prefix C-x
    unbind C-b
    bind C-x send-prefix
    set -g default-terminal "screen-256color"
    # this is nice (feels like a DE):
    set -g mouse
    # clock with a nicer color
    setw -g clock-mode-colour green
    ```

    (the clock pane does get its color changed)

    @kzimmermann

    I'd play with this setting

    1) comment it out, because it seems that mouse is on by default, at least in 3.9
    2) "set -g mouse on"

    @kzimmermann oh, I am starting to see why it doesn't work with a newer version...

    you see, when you do "set -g mouse" it flips - if it was on, it's off and vice versa. As you were using older tmux version, set -g mouse did turn it on... now it turns it off :)

    so either comment it out or use "set -g mouse on"
