Oct 14, 2026, 12:29 AMThanks to everyone’s feedback I’m currently testing bunny.net with my fname.ca domain.
Onboarding wasn’t super-difficult, there were a few differences with terminology but overall it was fairly intuitive. They offer a 14-day trial that doesn’t require a credit card, so I’m hoping to get a feel for traffic/cost in that time.

🤦♀️ here we go again.😂

This is all backend stuff. No new handles were created in the process of making this change. 😉
Basically, Cloudflare acts as the front door to my servers. It directs traffic and caches some of the content to reduce the load on my hardware & improve performance. It also has some fancy anti-bot, and anti-DDoS (flooding) stuff to prevent baddies from messing with my site. Lastly, it masks my IP address, which makes it harder for shithead fascists to make my life difficult.
The reason I’m hunting for alternatives is that Cloudflare is an American company, so if El-Cheeto breaks out his Sharpie™️ and says they need to comply with spying on my traffic or some other fuckery, there’s a good chance they would roll over for a belly scratch.
The outfit I’m trialling now is based in Europe. The catch is, I was doing everything under Cloudflare’s free tier, and Bunny.net isn’t free, so I’m hoping to get a feel for what kind of costs could be involved.

Ahhh I understand now. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
