    Periodic reminder that you’re allowed to curate your #Fedi access to only see things that feel nourishing to your soul. You’re allowed to get your news info and hot takes from other places than here. Sharing #doom is normalized on pretty much every other social media so it may feel like you just have to let it hit you here, but you can take steps.

    Filters generally work well. My doom filter is called The Horrors and has a looooong list of words. Just added “yandex” and “death cult”.

    @hollie The example of Yandex gives me mixed feelings. I am joyful that the data centres hosting evil-intent bots (pro-Nazi, anti-vax etc) have gone up in flames. But I remember landing in Shanghai, and opening my laptop in the long queue for a taxi, to find my hotel name and address were a Google link. China blocks Google, so it could not open; I tried some other search engines and they were also blocked; then I remembered Yandex, which worked ok and could search & find my hotel!

    @hollie I'm a climate and food security curator and as such expect to be filtered quite a lot. For the gruesome and politicized bits I admit I self-censor daily -- trying to hold down passing along performative shock, rants and rhetorical questions but it's still a torrent so it's only fair. My own filter is simply called "filter" and has about 40 terms.
