#NetBSD, take 2...
So with that "new" WiFi adapter, I now have solid internet without tethering in NetBSD. Hooray!
But now I got a new issue. I've got my big 27TB disk turned into a ZFS setup, and I tar'd a copy of my home directory into it, so that I could unpack it into my NetBSD home directory and get all my dotfiles and whatnot. (Said "whatnot" also includes the CDE and Motif source code so that I can build them and use them!)
I just... don't have a goddamn clue as to how to make the zfs command *SEE* that wd1 has a valid ZFS pool and thus let me mount it. (there's also mounting wd0 as NTFS, but we can deal with that later?) I tried looking up information, but all I got was a copy of the man page for zfs and it doesn't explain anything. Halp? @netbsd

@techokami@woof.tech @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org zfs is special and does not use any of the traditional unix disk or mounting stuff, and stores the mountpoint in the properties of the filesystem itself

zpool import <poolname> to manually do it

/etc/rc.d/zfs onestart to use the service instead

echo zfs=YES | sudo tee -a /etc/rc.conf to enable it every boot

@techokami@woof.tech @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org you cannot "mount" a zfs pool, only a zfs filesystem inside of that pool, and NetBSD can only know what a zfs pool is by having zfs tell it that it found the zfs pool

@techokami@woof.tech @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org by default if you named your pool "tank" and didn't set a mountpoint yourself then it will mount at /tank, and sub-filesystems made on it will mount under /tank heirarchically

@techokami@woof.tech @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org and unless you set it up so that both your operating systems run "zpool export <poolname>" on shutdown, then you will have to force-import every time you switch

@techokami What did turn out to be the issue (pool was not exported from the another system?) & how was that resolved (forced import?)?

@ax6761 @linear @netbsd Unfortunately I'm not 100% sure. In fact, I accidentally booted back into Linux and when I returned to NetBSD, the pool was made unavailable and I *couldn't* force-import it :(

@ax6761 @linear @netbsd Anyway I had to go back to Linux for now due to two key issues:
1) No Waterfox for NetBSD... I was going to compile it myself but then I ran into the issue with my pool being unavailable and un-force-import-able (since that disk is where I want to put the Waterfox source code repo for compiling)
2) While I did complete the steps in https://wiki.netbsd.org/tutorials/x11/how_to_use_wsfb_uefi_bios_framebuffer/ to make the resolution more sane, graphics performance was *PAINFUL*! Ooouuuugggghhhh... when is the next DRM refresh going to happen?

@techokami @ax6761 @linear It will happen, take a number of months to stabilize, people will already be complaining that there is new hardware it doesn't support, and the next version of DRM/KMS from Linux will be AI generated. :)

Well, in my particular case, porting from the 6.18 LTS kernel would solve my GPU issues (Arc drivers didn't completely stabilize until 6.13 iirc)

@techokami So "zpool import" (to see the ZFS pools that could be imported) shows nothing? If you have cache (default on NetBSD v11.0 is "/etc/zfs/zpool.cache") somewhere, remove that & try "zpool import" again.
Or, you may need try to import with the device ID of some sort.
