@heyheymomo I have noticed that the less tech the menu is using, the better the food is going to be.
Digital TVs with animations covering the menu every few seconds? Edible AT BEST.
Handwritten paper that looks like it's been taped there since the 80s? Best fucking food you've had in years! Bonus points if it's wrinkled.
@heyheymomo For pizza, the best is 1990's impact printed text under a sheet of glass on the counter. Double points if it's plexiglass and colored paper
Oct 8, 2026, 3:45 PMMe and my sister (we are Asian) are suspicious if an Asian restaurant has menus that are too well produced and in perfect English...
@vfrmedia @hellomiakoda @heyheymomo
I went to a Lanzhou Chinese restaurant a few days ago, and they brought out menus with no English on them except for a little note taped to the top that said "as server to translate."
The menu was dense and probably 15 pages.
The server came over and asked us a bunch of questions about what we like and don't like, then picked what we were going to eat for us, and wrote down the name and number of the dish so we could order it again when we come back.
Best meal I've had in a month, easily.
@vfrmedia @hellomiakoda @heyheymomo came here to say - the most legit chinese places are just like butcher's paper or a4 with scrawls on it all over the wall it's so fun
@hellomiakoda That makes me hungry.
@Gustodon Best Gulash in town can be found at a place where everything is handwritten (badly) on chalkboards
@hellomiakoda
@hellomiakoda very true!
