So, at what age do cats stop accidentally getting their knife fingers stuck on things? It keeps happening to my doofuses and I'm wondering if they're just too young (they're about 6 months old at this point) or if the doof runs deeper.
One of them just tried to climb onto my office chair via the armrest and slipped and fell off which is a somewhat common occurrence so it really could be either.
@StarkRG oh never hah. Happens somewhat less if you keep them regularly trimmed, but really its just part of having claws
@jonahgibberish I kinda figured. I've tried clipping them, but they're having none of my inexpert ministrations. I'm gonna get them groomed soon anyway (for two reasons, the immediate goal is to reduce the amount of shedding, but it's mostly to get them used to grooming should it ever become medically necessary).
IME? Never. It's one of the best things about cats. They're suave, elegant, and graceful. Right up until they aren't, and they become ridiculous. The dichotomy is hilarious.

And, a third vote for never. The clowder ranges from 4 to 5 years old. They still get their switchblades caught on fabrics. The real fun is when they forget they can retract their claws, and just keep trying to pull themselves loose. So, I have to help them get loose.

And it was always a Shit shit! moment because if I didn’t intervene it always seemed like they would tear a claw (they never did).
