The real lesson Jesus taught us is if you don't fight back you get nailed to a cross.

Me: 32 GB eMMC is absurd luxury to fit my toy os with all options ( < 200 mb )

Also me: The size of WhatsApp storage  on this phone is 55 GB.

(No: I am not ready to live without WhatsApp, you have no idea how this thing works is somehow central to life in Brazil).

Finally, #Halloween decorations I can get behind.

~80$ laptops are cheap until you buy all of them 😅

This Positivo (Brazilian-assembled Chinese tech) has an Atom z8350 which has four real cores. It likely performs like a Pi4 but with charger, a keyboard , screen, touchpad and a 64 GB MMC it’s a pretty darn cheap Pi by today’s standards.

Personally, I am waiting for the HomeView Pro.

Owning Samsung appliances is great, because you get used to paying someone $100 to come out and tell you that it doesn't make economic sense to try and fix it

The Yandex decrease in threat activity narrative was a nonsense peddled by the Ukrainian government. People confuse legit search engine bots with social media bots.

Russian propaganda operations don’t run from Yandex. They never have. I deal with them all the time on Mastodon. There was no dip.

It’s a reminder that wars have propaganda - and the propaganda was coming from Ukraine this time.

So my 2009 Toshiba 32-bits netboot has linux GPU acceleration support in i915 module because it is genuine intel but the 64 bit MGB (Brazilian schools)  does NOT. There was a dark period around 2011-2012  where PowerVR made licensed but proprietary and now totally unsupported hardware.

So the poor beast will be mostly CPU only. It will be fine on #atomique  but not as fast as you'd hope for alpha blending etc, not to mention 3D.

So if you aim for an old Atom CPU you may want to avoid the 2011-2012 (Cedar Trail, Oak trail, Clover Trail era with GMA 3600 or other PowerVR stuff) as well as some of the earlier 2008-2010 stuff.

Stuff from 2013 is clean again.

My younger kid has realized that school is at least in part, a prison where kids are kept so parents can be farmed by capitalists, and that the grading, testing, major, and degree system serves to normalize and perpetuate hierarchies of importance among people. Also that many people have no interest in the knowledge and only care about the signifiers of status.

Send help.

Got early access to the HomeView, it’s pretty decent

So I asked the person who does the cleaning here if she still had the eeePC we gave to her daughter in maybe 2011. Thinking it was likely just lying in a corner and I could buy it back to use as a test machine for atomique.

Since then I had also given her my older Intel MacBook Air.

Turns out what is lying in a corner is the MacBook Air. Because “it is stuck” and the eeePC is the one she still uses to read things online 😂

Well I will ask for lend for a usb boot test later I guess .

So, I've been planning to get to sell products for some years now, and just as I'm ready, I learnt we must move the fablab elsewhere and certainly further than 200m from home, cause we can't have nice things.

Means I'll be packing and unpacking stuff for the next 6 months instead of doing yet-unpaid but productive work.

Ukraine helps move Russia's Yandex data centers to the cloud.

Old Brazilian government netbook has a terrible 1280x800 screen. Kinda blurry. But it looks cool at 2x scale at 640x400.

I should say performance isn’t great at the moment (full cpu drawing). But nothing like the real hardware to hopefully fix this stuff.

Not quite sure of the age of the machine distribution program lasted  from 2010 to 2016 before the American supported soft-coup put a neoliberal in power after the impeachment of president Dilma. Suffice to say of course Bolsonaro from 2018 to 2022 did not restore the program.

#atomique

Toshiba NB205 32 bit Atom 1C/2T from 2009 booted into #atomique natively.

1024x600 screen looks pretty crisp at native scale.

TIL Adélie Linux uses musl not glibc. Not sure how this would affect of not building atomique (hosted) to run on it first.

I have not chosen glibc, it's just that #atomique source packages were from debian and that's the way it is.

#Previously slowly takes shape. Actually version 1.7.1 is published with all these features shown in the screenshot. Previously is a browser based admin and configuration tool for the Previous emulator.

I was looking for the kind of old sub 100$ used laptops to test #atomique and i was face with a 98$ working PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz.

Damn. I am weak. I set aside atomique support for PowerPC to “much later”. But who knows this might convince it to give it a try. There is an EOL LuaJIT for 32 bit PowerPC. After all it does run on a 32 bit Atom here.

Will likely dual boot Adélie Linux on this as Mac OS X 10.5 is something I always want near me.

Wait! Not like that!
